We know that sakura is a genjutsu type, so does anyone think that it was said for a reason like maybe something is going to come of it later during the war? I was just curious what people thought cause I think it would be a little weird if kishi put that in for no reason.

I think we might have misinterpreted Kakashi/Kishi. Yes, he did say Sakura is a "genjutsu type" but it doesn't only mean she can create illusions that genjutsus have been misinterpreted for. In actuality it also refers to really good chakra control. seeing as how the sharingan type of genjutsu relates to being control of another persons chakra flow. According to Jaraiya "when you're in a genjutsu, the flow of chakra in your brain is controlled by your opponent". So inorder to break from an illsuion "you need to stop the flow of chakra, and redirect all your chakra at once!".
In support of this, remember that kakashi told naruto that he was never a genjutsu type?. The situation in which he brought it up was when they had to climb up the tree. Sakura made it up the tree 1st, that training was based on focusing chakra at the bottom of the feet, same is aplied when standing on water. Sakura has amazing control over her chakra thats is why she easily dispels most illusions. As evidence that sakura has good chakra control is her medical ninjutsu and amazing strength. Chakra control plays a vital role in healing ninjutsu and not only that, her amazing strength is derived from excellent chakra control. When Kaskashi was testing them in the early part of shippuuden he said, "She focuses as much chakra as she can into her fist, and release it all at once....without precise chakra control she couldn't do it". (she being sakura).
So being a genjutsu type doesn't necessarily mean you have to be the one creating the genjustu (illusion), but can also refer to really good chakra control. Being the one breaking an illusion can also be seen as genjutsu as well. Like Jaraiya told naruto. " you were never a genjutsu type (thats y he had difficulty doing tree climbing also standing on water). So Jaraiya said the most i can teach u to do is defend urself against genjutsu, by learning how to be in control of ur chakra.
Also I think in order to carry out an illsusion, a medium has to be used. Whether it being using a doujutsu, singing a song, playing sounds. I think in kurenai's case it has something to do with her eyes or maybe it is apart of her character. So sakura will need something walking around with as well.
