If you are brought back to life using Edo then you are automatically going to be under the user's control and why would Madara risk that? What if the user betrayed him?

But yes, its generally accepted that they know eachother.

we dont know how madra died or when but it is stated he live after his fight with the 1st and it was stated that the injuries he got was life treatening!!!!! so he died anyway
