My bad I gave you wrong info, it was infact when he went to retrieve the rinnegan (someone else pointed this out). Also don't feel stupid I miss details all the time, hell I pretty much make a thread asking questions about each new manga chapter ahaha

Slight correction here, Naruto was only given his mother's last name (Uzumaki) in order to protect his identity as the son of the Fourth Hokage. If the Fourth hadn't died, his name would be Naruto Namikaze.
