Chapter 4
The girl looked like was only a little kid. She looked like she was around nine years old. She had short black hair in pigtails, though she wasn't sure because there wasn't much light in the room. She had yellow eyes that looked like they had no trouble seeing. She wore a cute blue dress that was the color of the sky. The only thing she couldn't describe was the Scythe in her hand.
“What are you doing here, Mitsuki? I told you that you can't come here when I'm not home,” Kodoku said annoyingly.
Someone already found them, but Kodoku didn't appear to be worried. “Taki and Katei told me to come here. They said something about research and the library. Is that your friend, Kodo?” she asked.
Kodo? That was a funny name. She really did sound like a normal kid, except that normal kids didn't have a Scythe in their hands.
“Yeah. Her name is Mi. You have to go back home now. We were about to head to the computer lab. We have a huge test in school, and computers make everything faster,” Kodoku explained.
Wait, why was Kodoku calling her Mi? The enemies knew what she looked like so using a fake name wouldn't work.
“Mi? That's a strange name. I'm Mitsuki,” the girl said cheerfully. There was no way Mitsuki was evil. She was too nice, and too young, to be evil.
“You look tired, Mitsuki. Head back to your house and take a nap, okay?” Kodoku said with a smile.
Mitsuki nodded happily before she ran out the door. “She's a good kid,” she said happily.
“Yeah. Kuroi adopted her four years ago. She had no home, and it seemed like the rain would never stop. We think something dramatized her though. The reason she calls me Kodo is because she can't say ku. That's why I told her that your name was Mi. I'm Kodo, and Kuroi is Roi. She doesn't know about magic, and I intend to keep it that way. She has that Scythe to protect herself. Kuroi would make her fight if he was desperate, and I know he's desperate. We have to go to the library, and use a computer. If we don't find out what changed Kuroi then we might be forced to kill him,” he explained.
She didn't want to kill Kuroi, not if he was good in the past. It wouldn't help those who believed in Kuroi, and followed him. “We won't kill him. You still believe in him, right? As long as you still believe in him then there's still a chance to save him! I still believe in my Mom, because I think she changed too. We can do it, Kodoku!” she exclaimed confidently.
“Too bad you weren't an ally, Kodoku. You're a smart guy. Why ruin it by helping this girl?” an all familiar voice said. Kuroi!
“K-Kuroi? What happened to Kikai!?” Kodoku yelled nervously.
“Who knows. His own chains were used against him. But, why are you risking everything for his girl!? Why is she so important to you!?” Kuroi shouted.
“Because she has Lunar magic! That magic we saw, it was given to her for a reason! I believe she can change you back, Kuroi! Or should I call you Roi?” Kodoku cried.
That was worse than the argument between Kikai and Kodoku. Kodoku really cared for Kuroi, but Kuroi wasn't listening to him. She had to try something, even if she saw low on magic!
“Roi? Oh, Mitsuki's nickname for me. Why would I respond to that?” he asked harshly.
“Because you care about her! Your old self cares about her, even though you changed before you met her! That's why you adopted her, because your old self took over!” she exclaimed.
The silver magic she saw at the lake surrounded the three of them and it looked like it was embracing them. “Remember yourself, Kuroi! Your true self! This isn't the real you! How would Mitsuki react if she found out about you being evil? Remember for her sake! Allow my Lunar magic to help you remember!” She felt exhausted as she said the words, but she wouldn't give in. She was going to change Kuroi back to normal!
The Lunar magic swirled around Kuroi, and then he grabbed his head. She was getting more exhausted, but she didn't care. It was working, so she couldn't stop.
“What am I- No! I need the power-Stop it! Power isn't important- Yes it is!” he argued.
“Yaburu died. Kuroi. You have to change back! Change back for Yaburu!” Kodoku called out.
Kuroi looked at them for a moment, and she saw sadness in his eyes. His old self was coming back! He cared deeply for Yaburu, and everyone else. His feelings would bring him back!
“He's starting to change back!” Kodoku said happily.
“M-Miku!” someone yelled as Miku was being knocked down as a sword replaced where she stood at. The magic around Kuroi vanished, and then he disappeared.
“No! We were so close!” Kodoku exclaimed before he looked at Miku. “Kikai!? We thought you were dead! Are you okay?”
Kikai looked awful. She was surprised that he was able to move. He was panting, and his right leg was covered with cuts. His arms were all cut up too, but he had a worse cut on his stomach.
“Those wounds are terrible. We have to take you to the hospital!” she said anxiously.
“No! I'll be alright if I rest for a while,” he said weakly. “But, you must know why I betrayed Kuroi. Kodoku told you how Kuroi was like a father to us, right?” She nodded. “I knew he was acting strange, but I couldn't leave his side. I thought I could find out what happened to him, but he wouldn't tell me what happened eleven years ago. All he said was we must be ready for the moon.”
Kodoku walked over to them and picked up Kikai. “I'll take him to his room. We need to talk after I'm done.” He walked away carefully so Kikai wouldn't be dragged.
She looked at the sword, and then slowly walked toward it. It was bigger than she was, and a black aura was around it. Who threw it at her? Whoever threw it wanted Kuroi to stay evil, and knew that he was good in the past. Maybe the person who changed him? 'Who else knows about Kuroi? Kodoku and Kikai noticed, but it sounded like nobody else noticed,' she thought.
She held out her hand to grab the sword, but it disappeared in the aura. She would have to have her guard up, otherwise the sword might hit her in the future. Who was all involved in this battle? Was everyone being forced to fight against their will? Was someone pulling the strings behind everything?
“Kikai is resting now. He was out of it by time we got to his room. The cuts weren't that deep, so he'll be fine as long as he rests,” Kodoku said.
At least no one else was sacrificed because of whoever was behind everything. “That's good,” she said. “So what did Kikai mean when he said the Moon? Why would the Moon be important to the battle?”
The Moon. Such a beautiful sight when it was surrounded by stars.
“I don't know. The Moon could mean anything. The magic books mentions the Moon, but not much is known about the Moon in the magic world. All we know about the Moon is that it's magical,” Kodoku explained.
A magical moon. Why was everything like a riddle? She hated riddles, and the whole battle was a huge riddle. 'Nobody knows the true meaning of this battle. Kodoku tries to solve it, but not even he knows everything. Not to mention the fact that Kikai got injured trying to protect us,' she thought sadly. She loved Kodoku, but there was nothing she could have done at that moment. She was useless when it came to thinking, but she couldn't change.
That's why she never spoke to Kodoku before. She didn't know what to say until the battle started. She couldn't even describe her feelings for Kodoku; they were that strong. Every time he was near her her heart started to race, and she thought she was going to pass out.
Her Mom and Dad were better at everything than her. They probably could have solved the Moon riddle. Was everything somehow connected to the Moon? Wait, the Moon? Maybe that was it! “Kodoku, I have a theory about the moon!” she exclaimed happily.
“Really?” he asked shockingly.
She nodded. “I think a dark power is trying to take over the Moon. I know it sounds crazy, but it makes sense. Eleven years ago when my parents disappeared, it was during the new Moon cycle. Also known as the black Moon. We wouldn't have noticed if a dark aura approached the Moon during that time because it would have blended in with the night sky. Then after the darkness approached it it started to change people. People like my Mom and Kuroi.”
Kodoku didn't reply, but his eyes were wide. She didn't want her theory to be right, because of what it really meant.
“If the Moon gets taken over by darkness then everyone would change. Then the world would be thrown into chaos,” Kodoku said slowly.
She nodded. Anyone could have been evil. Eleven years was a long time; she wouldn't be surprised if others changed. But who was strong enough to attack the Moon?
“We have to stop them! They're using innocent people for their own goals! This isn't a game!” he shouted in rage.
“I agree! In the name of Lunar Miku I will protect the Moon!” she exclaimed.
“But why haven't we seen an aura around the Moon? The black Moon doesn't last eleven years. I guess my theory was wrong.”
Just when she thought she figured it out it was wrong.
“Not exactly,” she heard. It wasn't the voice that Miku usually heard, but she couldn't recognize it either. A new voice was usually never good.
She turned around to see two guys standing at the doorway. One of them was kind of good looking, and the other one was odd looking. The cute one had short brown hair and dazzling green eyes. His jeans matched his hair, and the white jacket brought every color out.
The other one had short white hair and evil looking eyes. He had a dark blue jacket and black jeans, except they were ripped like crazy.
She got in a defensive position instantly, considering that they could be enemies. They also heard their conversation, which wasn't a good thing.
“Katei and Taki?” Kodoku said surprisingly.
"Don't be surprised, Kodoku. We felt the magic power from the library so we thought we should check it out,” Taki explained.
“Luckily for you, we heard your conversation just now. So what do you mean? Kuroi never changed,” Katei added.
They haven't noticed that Kuroi changed? Were they blind? If he went from kind to power hungry wouldn't that have put some doubt in their mind? Then they weren't the ones who threw the sword at her, unless they were acting.
“Kuroi wasn't after power before. He only started going after power eleven years ago, right? Even Kikai noticed, and he got injured,” she explained quickly.
They didn't have time to explain everything to them! They had to find Kuroi and change him back.
“Kikai is injured? He was our best fighter, not counting Kuroi. Who injured him?” Taki asked seriously.
“Kuroi did! You have to believe what we're saying! I've known you two for years! Don't you believe me?” Kodoku shouted.
That wasn't good. Kodoku was starting to lose it, but who could blame him? His family was falling apart right in front of him. He tried to keep it under control, but it was too much for him. She wouldn't even last long if she was in that situation. She wouldn't have been able to handle all the sadness. She was shocked that she was able to recover when her parents disappeared.
“Kodoku, you know we believe you. It's just hard to believe that Kuroi is evil,” Katei said.
“Wait. One of you said 'Not exactly,' when we thought our theory was wrong! What did you mean by that?” she asked hopefully. Was there something they were missing in their theory? She might be able to save everyone before it was too late!
“If someone was really trying to attack the Moon with a dark aura they wouldn't make it obvious. There could be magic around it, so we couldn't see the truth. Unfortunately, nobody knows the weakness of that magic,” Taki explained.
A magic where the seer saw lies. What about the user, though? Did it affect the user too? The pieces wouldn't fit together no matter what she tried. Why wasn't she smart like her parents? She wished that the fight never started! She killed somebody, and he would never come back. She would have to carry that for the rest of her life! That was reality, but she wanted it to be a lie. Lie? Truth? If only the truth was easy to understand and see!
'That's why the darkness is the best place for everyone. Why don't you just agree with me?' Not again!
“Miku, are you okay?” Kodoku asked.
All she did was nod then went back to thinking about the Moon. How much time went by since she left the lake? Was it dark outside? She was exhausted, but wanted to solve the puzzle first.
“You need to rest. You're probably exhausted after using that magic,” Katei said.
She couldn't sleep! She had to solve the puzzle. She couldn't sleep until she solved the puzzle. She never fell asleep if she had something to do.
“You're stubborn, aren't you? Don't force yourself. Sleeping Lily,” Katei said.
Huh? Her eyes were starting to close on their own. No! She didn't want to sleep! She couldn't keep them open! They wouldn't listen to her! Her vision went black, and she felt herself falling.
She was at the lake again, and it looked like there wasn't a fight there. The flowers were still alive. “This feeling never gets old. The view is just so amazing!” she said happily.
“You always loved this place. I'm glad that you still love it,” she heard.
That voice! Could it be? She turned around and exclaimed, “Dad!”
He appeared in front of her, and gave her a heart warming smile. His short brown hair was the same as it was eleven years ago, and it was the same color as his eyes. He had a black T-shirt on with matching jeans. How weird. He used to dress formally, and said how he would never dress informally.
“What are you doing here? Where are you right now?” she asked cheerfully. He might be alive! If he was in front of her then he might be alive!
“Knowing is the key. Miku. Those 'friends' around you are evil. You can't trust them. Knowing that they're evil is the key. I miss you, Miku. Hurry up and kill them, that way we can be together again,” he said.
She wanted to run to him, embrace him. But were the others really evil, or were they changed too? She looked at the lake, hoping that it held all of her answers. Then she saw it. Her Dad's reflection had a dark aura all around it, and the sword that almost hit her. Her Dad changed too?How was that possible? Why was everyone around her changing? “You changed, Dad. Your aura is black!” she cried out in fear.
He smiled at her before his aura surrounded the whole area. “So you noticed it? Such a shame, I wanted you to kill your friends, so I wouldn't have anyone in my way. I was hoping you would have changed like your Mother, but I guess you need a push in that direction,” he said evilly.
“Where are you!? I'll change you back to normal!” she exclaimed.
“You stupid girl! I was never good! I was hiding until it was the perfect time to attack! Everyone on the planet will change. It all started with Kuroi and your Mother. They were the first to change. Now it's your turn to change!” he shouted as the black aura slammed against her.
There was no way for her to stop the scream that came out of her mouth. It was painful at first, and then it slowly faded. Part of her wanted to fight her Dad, but the aura was starting to change her. She wanted to fight her Dad, but she wanted to join him too. No! She had to fight against the aura! She opened her eyes to see if there was a way out of the aura, but there wasn't an opening. 'If I don't do something now then it's over!' she thought.
“Miku,” she heard. It wasn't her Dad, and it wasn't the voice that tried to get her to join the darkness. She didn't recognize it, but it sounded friendly. She felt like she could trust it. “Don't be afraid, Miku. If you accept my power then you'll wake up. The whole world will be in danger if you change! You're the only hope left, Miku.”
She felt the strange power around her. She hesitated when she first felt it, but she didn't hesitate for long. Something was telling her to trust the voice and accept the power. 'If I change I'll end up fighting Kodoku,' she thought. She wouldn't allow that to happen! She felt the power enter her body then she reopened her eyes.
“Miku! You're finally awake! You started screaming, but you wouldn't wake up. We poured water on your face, but it didn't work. Are you okay?” Kodoku asked with Katei and Taki behind him.
She was awake. She was back with Kodoku, and she was normal. She wasn't changed. She embraced Kodoku, and cried. “Kodoku! It was awful! I almost changed!”
“What!? What happened?” Kodoku asked.
She told them everything that happened in her dream. Her Dad, his aura, what he said and did, and about the mysterious voice that fave her power.
“So we're going against your Father? How did he manage to change Kuroi without us hearing anything?” Taki said worriedly.
That was a good question. Was Kuroi that stronger, or was there another way to change people? 'Dad said that knowing was the key. What do I have to know?' she asked herself. She walked over to the window to see that it was dark outside. How long was she asleep for?
She enjoyed the view of the stars until she saw the moon. A thin, dark aura was around the moon! “There's a dark aura around the moon!” she exclaimed.
