Sai is better as he has some longe range jutsus and can fly.

Sakura and Naruto are just close to mid range fighters so its good to have a long range fighter too

Team 7 is like this:

Naruto = Close Range fighter
Sakura = Close Range fighter
Kakashi =Close-Mid Range fighter
Sai = Mid-Long Range fighter

Not the perfect substitute/replacement for Sasuke. Because no member of Team Seven/Kakashi would ever let Sasuke's place really be filled. But... I think he's perfect as a member for the team; he has his own spot. Sai is right where he belongs as a friend and comrade to Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi.

They have all accepted him so he already has taken the place of Sasuke in team 7. Their skills are different so he can't be a perfect substitute but he's doing quite well

well the sasuke now is both mid range and long range fighter plus naruto with chakra arms and shadow clones can also be classified as long range as well the only thing left is for one of them to fly.

Sasuke also can fly, he has Hawk summon. Besides Susanoo arrow > everything Sai has. If Team7 was reunited again, it would be the most powerful squad in history.

I think Sai has created his own place among Team 7. They will always consider Sasuke a part of Team 7, until he dies. At least Naruto will anyway. Sai's been through alot with Team 7 so far, more than Sasuke i'd say...so yes. I'd say he's a good fit.

Logically he's a better fit. He's a recon specialist which team 7 lacked before. When it was Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, the dynamic didn't make sense. Two people who lose thier temper and jsut want to show off their strength, and a crybaby. Now they have a recon, muscle, and brains/medical nin. Much better dynamic.
