Something is bugging me here , I mean the manga showed that Lee trained to learn to open the gates, right? So like, wth happens with the last gate? I mean, when you open don't you die? And if you don't open it, how do you know you even can open it? Am I missing out on something?

It doesn't answer on how another person could know if he's able or not

I doubt it since Neji couldn't get the first gate open and chakra release is his thing

Well I guess learning to open the first gate is kinda enough for you to open the rest, it's pretty much releasing/unlocking you chakra limiters

Well I think opening the gates is something in your mind, or at least the initial gate is, so I bet that you are aware of the gates and know when you have the ability to open them.

Obviously you can't train with it though, so there is no practical use for it unless you are trying to save teammates by killing you and your opponent.

Maybe while training the rest of the gates, while you keep going to higher levels you kinda notice a pattern to it. Or when in the 7th gate you try opening the 8th gate only halfway just to get a feel for what has to be done and then stop while training of course.

Good point, the results you'd get from the 8th Gate are pretty unknown since you'd die if you used it.

It just seems like one of those things that is going to go unanswered like how Kakashi unlocked his MS, or how Gaara is still able to use his sand without the 1-tails.

(I know it said it was his mother protecting him but that doesn't work that way otherwise he would never run out of chakra)

I fully agree with your points even toughs I have my own thoughts on how those 2 happened

Kakashi still feels responsible for the death of Obito so it might have done the same psychological crap that's needed. Though I have no idea on Shisui since Itachi was obviously not dead

As for Gaara, I believe it has something to do with his Father Magnetic release KG, he might have inherited it and his growing up with sand gave him an affinity for that.It could also be the same reason Naruto had whiskers at birth, his growing in contact with the biju's chakra gave him some of his proprieties

Still just assumptions with no solid proof :|
