it's funny because madara is being used by one of the senju's jutsus right now (edo tensei) and so was itachi

Thats like saying because i beat you in every fight we had, everyone before or after me in my family could beat everyone before and after you in yours....It just doesnt make sense.

If one group hired an Uchiha for a mission the other side then hired a Senju to stop that mission, that tell you they were equals, they did not hire or send people of other clans against the Uchiha nor Senju and hope for victory did they?

Yes. Tobi himself said' the only clan who could compete the senju were the uchiha'. and by clashing with hashirama, i (madara) became pretty famous myself.

they were the no1 clan at the time, i think in time they dispersed though, so the uchiha became stronger.

the uzumaki must have been pretty great too, if they were feared so much they were attacked.

If I was from the Hyuga I would profess the Huyuga to be the strongest if I was from the Aburame clan I would wax on about that clan's superiority..If the Senju and the Uchiha were the top dogs among other clans why the need for an alliance it never made sense to me. If I know I can beat my rival why form an alliance what's the ultimate payoff? Yes peace is good but why would these 2 clans need it from each other? And even with the forming of the Village (Konaha) still dealt with war after war..The Senju may have respected the Uchiha and the Uchiha may have respected the Senju but it seems the other villages never got the memos on these 2 clans. So how strong were they was it just a few members from each side was that enough to base their prowess out on the battlefield? Aren't teams or in this case clans are usually the sum of their parts not just a few individuals..the supposed superiority was just hype to scare other clans....imo they were comparable, on par, coextensive, evenly matched, apart they were exceptional clans but they weren't invincible..............so team up why not.....

The senju and uchiha are at desame level. They have been a rival from the beginning as stated by tobi.

Exactly. The two clans have been rivals for centuries and have always been equally strong. Senju have strong chakra and the Uchiha have the Sharingan. Only Madara and Hashirama were special. Madara was the first to awaken the Mangekyo, Hashirama possessed Wood Release. Saying "Hashirama defeated Madara so Senju are stronger" is pointless, is doesnt proof anything! We are talking about the clans, not two induviduals. It doesnt matter that these men were the most powerful out of their respective clan because just from that you cant judge which one ist more powerful.
The Uchiha were definately not stronger, we know that from what Tobi told Sasuke.
And if the Senju were stronger, they wouldnt have made that peace contract, why ally yourself with an enemy that you could defeat? And every Uchiha except Madara wanted to accept this contract, so they were not able to defeat the Senju neither.

Two sides of the same coin, the ying and yang of the Naruto clan base, stars and stripes etcetc.

They are exactly the same in terms of strength and for the most part will always be so. The few special exceptions are just that, special and exceptional. Madara vs Hashirama, Naruto vs Sasuke, Itachi vs Nagato ... all of these are special and unique and thus shouldnt be used as a means of debate.

The clans had powers no other had and were the strongest in the Narutoverse. BOTH sides lost soldiers and loved ones and in time the bloodshed probably reached a turning point and it just happened that the Uchiha went for the peace treaty. Who knows, given another day/week/month in the NVerse it might even have been the Senju who approached the Uchiha.

So to iterate, (Uchiha = Senju) =/= unique members of exceptional power
