Beside not only does using puppet bodies negate chances of injuries since he doesn't take part in battle but it makes him stronger in the way that blank point attacks are almost useless as they have 6 common field of vision, making it easier not only to evade attack, but to hunt down people, corner them and keep track of enemy movements.

It was back during the Third Great Shinobi War when Hanzo teamed up with Danzo and tricked them into a false alliance so Danzo could get a hold of Nagato's Rinnegan eyes.

In the aftermath of the drama he summoned the Geido statue and used it's power to absorb the souls of their Ninja.

He paid the price for it when his legs got horrid burns and his spinal column was pierced by Chakra Rods from the statue.
