It's based on the manga and is similar to the games. First you have Red/Blue/Green , then Yellow, then Gold/Silver, etc.

I'm only halfway through yellow. I starting reading during end of summer and then school started so I completely forgot about it.

The manga is actually competely different from the anime. Pokesepcial sadly hasn't been made into an anime yet. Ash and Gary are just based off the characters Red and Blue(aka Green in Japan). Pokespecial is also more mature than the anime. Ex. Blue was going to get his head cut off, and the gym leaders are not what you expect them to be

The problem with pokemon is it has the most generic and pathetic storylines ever. It could have been a good series, but they made it so kid friendly that no one besides kids would want to watch it.
