orochimaru's impure world resurrection

my question is the following. it is said that if a ninja is sealed in the demon death seal he cannot be brought back. but how come orochimaru was about to summon the 4th hokage if he was already sealed away in the death seal.
it has been bugging me for quite some time.:shrug:

So many threads about this... He failed at summoning him to begin with, the 3rd hokage thought he stopped oro from summoning him but it really was because he was sealed which was revealed later in the manga when kabuto explain edo tensei to tobi.

How are you so sure it was the 4th? It didn't show who was inside the coffin.

It said I think 4th on the coffin or something symbolizing the fourth hokage.

Personally I think kishi changed his mind. Else he would have to reasonably power up the hokages(especially 1st) and he's run out of hax no jutsus

well dont you have to have some of there dna to summon them? well where would orochimaru get the DNA to summon him if you couldn't resurrect someone who has been sealed? shouldn't he have known that? so why did a coffin appear while he was trying to summon him....???? answer me that? So why would he even try if he knew he couldn't.

When Kabuto was explaining how impure world resurrection worked to Tobi he said that the jutsu could only bring souls back from the pure world, so if the souls are sealed anywhere else they can't be brought back, unless someone takes the technique to the next level maybe.
Kabuto also said that it was the fourth hokage Orochimaru was trying to summon in the failed coffin too.

he didn't know. that's when he learned.
if he could find hashirama's and tobirama's dna he could surely find minato's
and take a look all the people kabuto found

The death could of been a mystery, the only known people who knew about the death god was minato, kushina(sp?) and the 3rd hokage. Oro did not know he was sealed in it's stomach so he could of summoned him but he was sealed.

Not necessarily that it failed. Remember you have to do the jutsu at "home" before you summon them at the battle field, so I guess it was not the fourth. And a person like Orochimaru should know about how the 4th died.

There is many ways to get dna, most likely grave robbing to get the dna or else he had some from the past. Dna is always around so he can get it with some difficulty, it depends on how far he will go to obtain it.
And he tried to summon him because he didn't know he was sealed is my best guess.

I'm sure the fourth hokage had some sort of big funeral like the third did after his death. After being sealed by the reaper death seal, the person's body is still left, so Orochimaru could have gotten dna from that sometime after his death.

i agree that orochimaru knew how he died. i think he just did not know the extent of the death seal until explained to him by Hiruzen. as for the dna of the 4th, orochimaru is very clever at ataining what he wants.
