It's pretty much NB's currency however it has pretty much no use. Most people would pay for signatures or avatars from the gfx sections but now many people do it for free. An easy way to get kumi is still becoming a great gfxer and charging a bit of kumi.
Winning a contest sometimes nets you some kumi as well, one on the top of my head is manga coloring which gives you 3,000 for first place.
A very hard way of getting kumi is rp battling with kumi stealing. But if you lose the battle then you lose your kumi and you must be pretty smart and tough to win most of your battles to begin with.
