Earth, to me is one of the 5 elements commonly used for defensive purposes, but it is also used in offense as well making it very versitile. It is strong against water but weak vs. lightning... That's what it is to me
This is my view after reading narutopedia and using my own words with it
Alright! So Earth Release is one of the 5 elements, and it's very nice for offensive and defensive purposes and can be used anywhere from the density of clay all the way to straight up rock! My favorite thing is it can even make people heavier or lighter and then they can travel through the ground or objects.

Yes. Earth is great for both offensive and defense due to it's malleability and sturdiness; the ability to move or be solid makes it a valuable element.

Now, the chakra questions.

Even though you mentioned it above, what is Doton's relationship with the other elements, and why does it interact with them the way it does?

Doton is strong against water but weak against lightning. The reason it is strong against water is because it can completely redirect and stop water in its tracks. Though, doton is weak against lightning because lightning can travel through dense objects, such as doton

:| I have probably lost five minutes of my life from staring at your sig. xd

Yes; Earth is strong against water, because it is only the land that can part the sea.

Doton is weak against Raiton due to the fact that Lightnings high amount of energy and vibrations basically "tear" through the earth; it, on a molecular level, causes the molecules to vibrate and fall apart, if they aren't out right ripped apart.

Despite never being explicitly put into one category, Doton is assumed to be a Yin element nature, due to having more in common with Wind and Water than Fire and Lightning.

Doton, like Suiton, has a good balance of offensive and defensive uses.

*Sits down on the ground and tosses you a rock.*

Hold this stone in your hand, and meditate upon it. I want you to describe to me it's various qualities.

Sorry, my sig has that problem, I procrastinated way to much because of it xd

*catches rock and sits down in meditating position*
Well, it has very jagged edges, it has a proportionally high density in comparison to it's mass. It feels... Stronger than water I guess is how I can put it, but more diverse than fire...

That's a good start, but a lot of earth is structure. How is it? Or, how does it feel, how is it built?

Is it soft, or firm? Does it sway, or is it sturdy? These are a few of the things we'll need for you to focus on, and the traits we'll need you to harmonize with, so that we can begin to awaken your Doton chakra.

Rock is Firm, it always stays sturdy, it's built in a solid way that cannot be moved by anything, it deflects fire, breaks wind apart and changes the flow of water... Better?

Hrm...not quite what I'm looking for. We don't care about it's reaction to other elements at this point, we simply want to focus specifically on Earth's qualities.

The stone represents Earth's sturdy and unyielding qualities. It also represents one more thing: stability.

Now, I want you to take a handful of dirt and examine that: focus up the qualities that make it earth; which ones found in it would be useful attributes to help you awaken your chakra?

Hmmm... I guess Earth is not my best element xd!

*Scoops a handfull of dirt and closes eyes*
Well... I feel how it seems like one thing when really it's many grains of dirt together making one whole type of product even though some grains of dirt can slip through my fingers.

Some attributes that may help me awaken my chakra are.... Well I guess that it is in way soft, and mushy and feels like it can be formed into anything. It also feels a little wet.

I am probably bad at this xd Idk much about earth ^^

Ah, not to worry. Everyone has elements that they are good and bad with.

While the moist aspect is not important, you did touch upon the other part of earth that we needed: malleability.

That's the two biggest aspects of Earth we'll be using, despite the fact that they conflict, because they cover practically every type of Doton jutsu you could use: Malleability for things like mud, or actually forming things of earth, and Sturdiness for stone and how we want the things we make to be.

Because of that, I want you to now take stone in one hand and soil in the other, and try to start matching your chakra to it's attributes.

So, to begin, let's start with you trying to make your chakra akin to the soil.

*picks up dirt*
*I sit down and close my eyes trying extremely hard to concentrate. Then, I meditate with it for awhile*
*Once I believe I have meditated enough I focus my chakra throughout my body. I try to add in characteristics of soil, it being maleable, and such. I know I mess up a few times but after about 4 hours I believe I have it right*

*Watches.*

Very good. Now, keeping that in mind, take the stone in the other hand and apply the attributes of it to your chakra as well.

got it.... *Picks up a stone*

*I close my eyes again and focus on the rock and it's characteristics. I go into a deep meditation over it*

Alright, let's see.

*Hands you a slip of chakra paper.*

Focus your chakra through that.

There ^^

Very nice. ^_^

So, with that, we can learn the first jutsu:

Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defence
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Descripton: Creates small pillars of earth, small tools, and small shields of earth.

This jutsu is not known to need handseals.

One of the simplest, but most useful techniques you'll see in the RP; people love to use this jutsu to dodge techniques by creating a pillar underneath their feet. This is also the use you'll see it have most often, though it can be used to create pillars for attacking opponents; however, the effectiveness of that dwells upon your ability.

A good thing to remember is, though, that stronger jutsu will destroy the pillar if you're not careful. If I used the Antlion technique (something we'll learn later), you're pillar would break, and your defense wouldn't be good; this is due to my earth jutsu having a greater force than your pillar can withstand.

It's also very simple to preform: focusing your chakra into the ground, you'll manipulate the earth you saturated with your chakra to form the desired shape.

Give it a shot- though, be detailed as to what you're doing with your chakra, so that I can make sure you have a proper understanding of the jutsu.
