We can't tell if he needed them or not, when it comes to that it is all biased and guess work, so we should drop that.

As for the manga, it does speaks for itself obviously because of the plot. There are vs threads constantly made on Nagato vs Itachi, in which a lot of people agree that Nagato wins with reason and difficulty.

The Demon fox is naruto's power, it is his legacy. Naruto defeated the six paths of Pein, doesn't matter if it was thanks to the Fox's power, the Fox is part of Naruto's power.
