What happend to the Gedo Statues assault?

As we saw earlier, the Gedo Statue appeared and basically started mauling the Alliance on one battlefield. Then with the night coming, it vanished along with Madara (Tobi)... (As well as the pot, if I recall correctly.) As idea's as to why?

I'm guessing he needed it to feed the jinchuriki's some of it's chakra. He didn't want to risk the statue (which I think is the corpse of the juubi) to lose to the alliance xd

1)maybe because gedo mazo consumes to much chackra
2) cuz he (tobi) was there only for the Kin and Gin fox chackra, and he doesn't actually care in winning the battle with the zetus and the edos

Tobi wanted to collect the Treasured Tools of the Sage of the Six Paths from the Shinobi Alliance.

But he only recovered the sealing pot, didn't he? Since Tenten had the Banana Fan, and.... I just forgot his name, that other guy had the sword and gourd? Possibly even the rope?? I'd have to go back and read it through again.
