Chapter 10: B & E, not bacon and eggs either
Elizabeth walked slowly towards the two who were still lip locked. She pulled Sophia up by her hair and tossed her like a rag doll with her good arm. Sophia cried out in surprised as she flew several feet off of Vincent, blush still staining her cheeks. Elizabeth stood over Vincent and his eyes widen in fear at the sinister glare that held its place on her face. “It was an accident.” Vincent pleaded, making the other two’s eyes widen at the sudden show of fear on Vincent’s usual emotionless face.
“Accident my ass!” Elizabeth hissed out, jealously fueling her rage even more with each passing second. “Your reflexes aren’t that slow Vincent, you could have caught her easily.” Her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, “Then you let her startle herself on top of you as she kissed you. What the hell was that about?” Elizabeth screamed out enraged as her body began to tremble.
If Elizabeth wasn’t so terrifying at the moment, he would be rather turned on by the sudden show of jealousy towards him, but there was one thing you never wanted to do and that was to make Elizabeth in the state she was in now. “I was in shock, I wasn’t sure of what to do.” Vincent struggled to maintain his train of thought.
Elizabeth’s movements were so fast that nobody even saw her punch him in the face until Vincent was facing the other way, spiting out some blood. “Once we are done here, I never want to see your face again Vincent.” She said as she turned her back on him. “After we get the documents, you are hear by relieved of your duties as my body guard.” Elizabeth said as her chest tightened. Tears stung in her eyes, but she was too stubborn to let them fall and wouldn’t allow herself to cry, especially in front of everyone.
Vincent stood to his feet and went to put his arms around Elizabeth, but she turned and slapped him hard in the face. “Ouch.” Gabriel said, as a vibrant handprint was apparent on Vincent’s cheek.
Vincent was surprised as the stinging in his cheek became warm, spreading to every inch of skin that came in contact with her hand. “Don’t touch me Vincent.” Elizabeth hissed as she continued walking towards the gate that the guards were standing watch at.
“How could you be such a cruel bitch?” Sophia yelled out in surprise at Elizabeth’s actions towards Vincent.
Michael sighed, “Stay out of this Sophia, Elizabeth will kill you.”
“I don’t care how tough she thinks she is, it was an accident. I took Vincent off guard!” Sophia yelled out as her body trembled partly from fear and the other part anger.
Elizabeth stopped and turned, her eyes darker; no playfulness existed in them as she was frowning. “Vincent doesn’t let his guard down.”
“He can’t have it up at all times.” Sophia argued back.
Vincent glared at her, making her shut up instantly. Vincent’s glare was almost as menacing as Elizabeth’s. “I deserved it.” He said as he walked over to his sword that had fallen out of his grasp in the collision and picked it up. Vincent didn’t hold anything against Elizabeth, feeling guilty for her injury on top of the kiss that was stolen from him. He wasn’t pleased by it all either and seeing Elizabeth’s cold demeanor towards him, only made his chest feel heavier with guilt. He knew Elizabeth was close to her breaking point with everything that has happened, but he wondered just how much further it would take for her to be pushed over edge. Better yet, what would her reaction be?
Elizabeth didn’t say anything more to the two as she was waiting for them to catch up at the gate. She fought back the tears, forcing her emotions back into an already full bottle. She kept silent and her eyes hidden in her bangs as the others caught up.
Once everyone was caught up, Vincent kept his distance from Elizabeth, though he glanced at her from time to time. He hated not seeing her childish charm, the woman he had always knew. The woman standing in her steed gave off an icy aura that even shook Vincent. They all rushed towards the mansion, following Elizabeth quietly as they jumped over flowerbeds and dodged rose bushes.
This district, screamed sophistication as they passed a nicely placed marble fountain and some cement benches that people could sit on and admire the garden’s beauty. “So different.” Gabriel said in amazement.
“This is just her father’s portion.” Michael said after a few moments of silence. It was obvious that Elizabeth wouldn’t say anything and Michael was happy for that, seeing as she probably would have killed Vincent if she did.
They snuck behind the back of the house to see some steps that lead down into a basement. “We aren’t going in there are we?” Sophia asked in a snobbish tone.
Elizabeth ignored her as she opened up the doors that lay facing up. Vincent however gave her a harsh glare, making her blood turn to ice. Sophia panicked on the inside, seeing how much she had failed in trying to make Vincent into something he wasn’t. She beat her self up as they walked down into the basement. She ended up pissing Vincent off as well as Elizabeth. Gabriel gave a curious glance towards Sophia seeing her body tremble slightly. Sophia forced a smile on her face and Gabriel shook it off as they followed Elizabeth into the mansion.
“There are too many of us.” Elizabeth said softly before she opened the door out of the basement. “You three stay here and watch over yourselves. Dumb ass and I will go on the search for the documents on our own.” She said coldly, pointing her thumb in Vincent’s direction. “Also if we aren’t back here in twenty minutes, leave here. Don’t worry we will get out with those documents. We will rendezvous at the waterfall three miles from here.”
“Three miles?” Gabriel asked as he felt his legs twitch from pain already.
“If you feel like you won’t make it to that point in time, then leave as soon as we leave this room. We can’t have you two getting in harms way.” She said looking at Michael and Gabriel, not even paying Sophia any mind.
“Our old training area.” Michael said softly.
Elizabeth nodded, “Yes and if there is trouble, Vincent will lead us all to a safer area. Some where he knows will be safe for the night.”
“Be careful.” Michael and Gabriel said in unison, seeing the dangers this mission could cause.
Vincent said nothing though, knowing she was frustrated and also didn’t want to get punched again. His cheeks hurt still both from the punch and slap done to either cheek. Elizabeth didn’t say anything more as she opened the door. Vincent quickly followed her lead, knowing this mansion like the back of his hand. Elizabeth and him would play for hours, hiding from the other when they weren’t training. How he missed those days of being kids when life was easier and Elizabeth seemed happier, not like she was now.
Elizabeth glanced back at Vincent seeing the distant look on his face. Violins and other instrumentals filled the air as they ran up the staircase and over the catwalk that gave a small window of the event going on down below. “The prince is here.” Vincent whispered softly, making Elizabeth stop dead in her tracks and quickly peek around the wall as they spied on the people.
“Trevor as well.” Elizabeth said in a softer tone than her icy aura gave off.
Vincent’s eyes darted over to his brother who was wearing a black suit and a red shirt underneath his tux’s jacket. The top two buttons were undone, showing off his pale skin and nicely tone chest. “If he’s here, then maybe he-“
“Let’s go.” Elizabeth cut him off as she ran towards her father’s study. Vincent followed her obediently as they ran up some more stairs, then turned down a hall, as they came to a door. Elizabeth opened it just to see a single light on at the desk. She quickly ran over to the desk and glanced at the locks.
“Locked?” Vincent whispered back, keeping his ear to the door in case he heard anyone coming.
“Yes.” She said as she took out a throwing knife from her hiding area.
“Where do you hide all those knives at?” Vincent asked Elizabeth curiously.
She unlocked the drawer and tossed the knife at the door, missing Vincent’s head by a mere few inches. “I’m still very upset with you Vincent, this changes nothing.” She hissed out as she frantically looked through all the papers in her father’s desk.
“I know.” He said letting some of the sadness fill his words.
Elizabeth felt a pang of sadness and guilt swell her heart, more so then it already was. She stood up and grabbed Vincent’s shirt, slamming him harshly into the door. Vincent looked at her with sadness written on his facial features. Elizabeth knew how he was feeling and as much as she wanted to scream and punch him some more, she felt bad for him. “I’m so sorry Vincent.” She said as she buried her head in his chest, letting the tears spill from her eyes.
Vincent held her closely as Elizabeth was slowly crumbling in his arms. “We shouldn’t linger.” Vincent warned softly.
Elizabeth’s anger shot through the roof, letting her emotions cloud her judgment. “I hate you, I hate you!” She chanted over and over as she acted like a five year old, throwing a temper tantrum. “Who does that heifer think she is kissing what belongs to me!” Elizabeth growled out as she aggressively pulled Vincent down to her lips. She kissed him with such passion that Vincent had to regain his balance. Though unlike the stolen kiss with Sophia, he wrapped his arms around Elizabeth and kissed her back with the same passion she poured into him.
Elizabeth eagerly pressed her lips against his soft ones and then separated them as she nibbled on his bottom lip, making him crave more of her sweet kisses, even if they were angry ones. She broke away and quickly returned to the desk, knowing that they were limited on time. Vincent smiled softly as he watched Elizabeth toss papers onto the floor. He knew what he wanted and he would be damned if he would let anyone take her from him, while he was still alive.
“I found them.” Elizabeth said as she stood up and skimmed through the papers. “As we expected, Trevor was one of the two assassin’s that were sent out to kill Gabriel’s family.”
“No surprise there, but why?” Vincent asked curiously.
Elizabeth read further into the documents and then dropped them. She shook her head, unable to withstand the grotesque news she just read. “I don’t know how accurate these papers are based on Gabriel’s family, but that’s just not right, though very cliché.” She said as she picked the papers up hurriedly.
“What?” Vincent asked urgently as footsteps could be heard.
“Take these.” Elizabeth said softly. “Whatever you do don’t let Gabriel find out.”
“Why are you handing them to me?” Vincent asked softy as Elizabeth stuffed them into a secured area inside his shirt.
“I have no where to put them. Let’s go.” She whispered as they power walked to the window and opened the glass doors, leading onto the balcony.
“I knew I smelled your perfume.” Trevor mumbled as he sniffed the skin on Elizabeth’s neck. He had slipped out from the shadows and was now holding Elizabeth tightly from behind. “I won’t let her go Vincent.” Trevor smiled a sinister smirk towards his brother.
Vincent felt enraged, letting jealousy pump through his veins. How dare his brother hold what was his! Vincent’s eyes widen suddenly, he felt the same pain Elizabeth did when Sophia kissed him. His heart throbbed painfully and tugged as if it wanted to shatter into millions of pieces, while rage boiled in his veins. Vincent lunged forward just to stop when he saw tears stream down Elizabeth’s face. “Run Vincent, GO!” She shouted as her heart felt like it was going to break. Guards came in from the door, out numbering them a great deal, and rushed towards Vincent.
Vincent wanted to wipe away those tears that were turning her eyes a turquoise color, real tears. Today was the first time he had seen them with his own eyes, coming from his childhood friend. “I’ll be back for you.” Vincent promised as he quickly jumped off the balcony, landing gracefully on his feet.
Elizabeth elbowed Trevor in the face and rushed towards the balcony, reaching out for Vincent as her heart swelled with pain. “Vincent!” She cried as Trevor regained his hold on her. “I love you Vincent!” Elizabeth shouted into the night sky as she watched her lover retreat to safety.
Vincent heard her words and closed his eyes tightly, fighting back the tears of leaving what was most important to him in the hands of the enemy. “I’m so sorry Elizabeth.” He said softly as he rushed off towards the agreed meeting point where the others were waiting for him.
