Chapter 5: Bar Fight
She closed her eye reflexively as she waited for the blade to impale her, but she didn’t feel anything. She wondered if she was killed so quickly that no pain even came to her. She wiped that thought from her mind when she heard a voice ask in a menacing tone, “Just who the hell are you?”
She let out a sigh of relief, thankful she wasn’t dead, “My knight in shinning-“ she opened her eyes to see a man crouched down in front of her, “armor.” She said the last word sourly as her eyes drank in the man’s appearance in front of her. “What are you doing here Vincent?” She growled out as her dark blue eyes glared angrily into a pair of emerald green ones.
Vincent, the man sitting in front of her, sighed and spoke in a calm tone, “From the looks of it, saving your ass.” He said as he glanced back avoiding the hateful glare the woman was giving him. The thug stood with his mouth slightly ajar as disbelief clouded his eyes. Vincent had a firm hold of the cool steel that rested against his pale fingertips and had caught the blade before it ever came close to the woman’s face. Vincent was smart enough to catch the blade by the flat end of the sword and not the sharp end, which could’ve cut into his skin with ease.
“You caught my sword!” The man stuttered out as he tried to keep his fear from rising into his words, but it was already etched into his facial features.
“You didn’t have to save me Vincent!” The woman said in a disappointed tone. Vincent turned his head, his long raven strands falling around his face. His eyes searched the woman’s as if trying to detect a lie or wondering why she was so disappointed to see him. His dark green orbs searched her blue ones, then discreetly gazed at her rosy cheeks, and finally falling to her soft pink lips.
His eyes widen as he noticed that his eyes had wandered towards the woman’s inviting lips. Luckily the woman didn’t notice as she crossed her arms over her chest in a pouting manner. He pulled himself together as he parted his soft lips, “Would you have preferred the sword I’m holding to have pierced that beautiful face of yours?” He asked in a half teasing way, hoping that the woman was too dense to catch on to the underlining meaning in his words.
The woman’s eyes darkened and narrowed dangerously, “Yes I would’ve preferred that if it meant that I wouldn’t be seeing you before it impaled me.” Her child like tone didn’t match the sinister glare she was trying to give Vincent.
“I will remember that next time then.” He said in an emotionless tone, catching onto the tough front she was trying to put up. He rose to his feet, matching the height of the thug behind him and shot his elbow backwards. A loud snapping sound filled the air, followed by whimpers and cries from the man that was hit. The sword clattered against the wooden floor as both of the men seemed to have let it go at some point.
Vincent turned to face the thug that was curled up into a ball, holding his nose as blood seeped through his fingers. Tears brimmed at the thug’s eyes, threatening to fall and betray his manly pride. “Attacking someone while their back is turn towards you is a cowards act of desperation.” The woman glared as she stood to her feet, grabbing onto the back of Vincent’s shirt.
The man removed his hands from his nose, showing the awkward tilt it had as he reached for the sword. Vincent quickly kicked the hilt away from the man, making the sword scratch across the floor until it hit the wall close by. Vincent stood there patiently as he eyed his opponent waiting for the time he would attempt to lunge at him again. He heard a creaking in the floorboard coming from his right and he sidestepped with ease, evading the brave soul that tried to attack in his blind spot. Vincent quickly held out the tip of his foot, making the man fall clumsily into a nearby table, breaking it with ease.
“Hey moron, I guess you did get a victory today!” The woman laughed as she was still using Vincent as a shield to hide behind. “Though a thought does come to mind.” She said in a childish like tone. “What did that poor table do to you? I’m sure whatever it did, it’s very sorry about it now.” She said in a cheeky tone, matching her child-like features that fit her face perfectly.
Vincent said nothing as the woman taunted the thugs from behind him. He knew one thing was for sure, even if he did say something to her, it wouldn’t help. She was too stubborn to listen to anyone, especially him. The thug with the broken nose started to back off, as if he were going to make a run for it, but the second he turned his back on Vincent, a glass bottle shattered against his head, making him fall to the ground unconscious.
Vincent turned to see the woman standing on a chair, looking over his shoulder. “Did you have to throw that Elizabeth?”
“He was going to get away!” Elizabeth protested as she pointed towards the uncurious man who was surrounded by shards of glass and blood coming from his ears.
“I think you threw it a little too hard.” Vincent said softly as he pointed at the puddle of blood that was forming under the man’s head.
“Oops.” She said in a child like tone, not being sorry about the matter at all. “Oh well if he lives through this maybe he won’t ever attack someone that has their back turned to them.” She shrugged with a mischievous grin plastered to her face.
A sound of steel connecting filled the air, making them both turn to see Gabriel standing behind Elizabeth, catching a thug’s sword with his own. “You little brat!” The thug yelled angrily at the fact that a mere child’s blade had stopped his own.
Elizabeth examined the thug’s tangled hair and wild eyes. He had many scars, informing her that this man had been in many battles before and would indeed be more of a match for the little boy who stopped the blade. “Hey you ugly!” Elizabeth taunted as Vincent rolled his eyes and turned his back to hers, watching for any more attackers. The thug looked up at Elizabeth, not making it to her face as her well-developed chest distracted him. “Hey MORON!” Elizabeth shouted at him, seeing his wandering eyes being glued to her chest. Nothing made her angrier than a pervert in the heat of a good fight. “My eyes are up here!” She growled out, getting the man’s attention.
His cheeks burned a tint of red as he realized that he had been staring and got caught doing it. “Sorry.” He muttered out, but decided to push his luck further. “You really do have a great set of-“
Before he could finish that statement, he was sent flying into the bar, shattering the bottles that contained the liquor. “How dare you!” Elizabeth seethed angrily with her fist still tightly clenched. Gabriel stepped out of the way as the she dropped off the chair and slowly walked towards the bar. Vincent had turned once again, to see the whole incident unfold. Elizabeth jumped over the bar skillfully as she picked the man up by the collar of his shirt. “Your eyes need to quit molesting my chest you sick freak!” She hollered loudly as everyone was now egger to see her beat the man to a bloody pulp.
“I’m sorry!” The man screamed out in pain as Elizabeth continued to punch him ruthlessly in the face.
“Tell someone who cares!” She shouted back as she continued to punch him, blood running down his chin from the busted lip she had given him.
Vincent sighed as he swiftly headed over to the fuming woman. He wrapped his arms around her waist, trying to pull her off of him, but she wouldn’t let go. “Elizabeth let him go.” Vincent said coolly.
“He violated me with his eyes!” She shouted in disbelief. “He knew he was going to get caught, but he did it anyway!” She shouted as she kicked and tried to wiggle free from Vincent’s grasp.
The man got on his knees and begged, “Please don’t let her go.”
Vincent was able to separate the two before the man begged him to not let her go. However, he had difficulty holding onto the aggravated woman. “I can’t hold her for much longer, so you might want to run off now.” Vincent warned as Elizabeth tried to elbow him in the face, but he easily dodged.
“Let me go Vincent!” She yelled out and caught sight of the pervert running towards the door. “You’re lucky he’s holding me back! Don’t let me see your face again or I will kill you!” She threatened in the same tone she was using towards Vincent.
“Over something as small as someone admiring your chest?” Gabriel asked in disbelief, still not understanding why it was such a big deal.
“It’s a big deal to her.” Vincent sighed as he leaned forward, resting his chin on her shoulder. “Elizabeth.” He said softly, making the woman calm down.
“What Vincent?” She asked in an angered tone, but it was more calm than wild now.
“There’s fun to still be had.” He cooed in her ear, making her smile.
She laughed and turned to the leader of the thugs that was whimpering in a corner, still nursing his wound. “There sure is Vincent.” She smiled a mischievous grin as Vincent let her go. “Hey you boss man, your thugs are gone, now what will you do?” She asked as an eerie aura surrounded her. The look on her face was playful but after what just happened, it made others see her as unpredictable.
The leader of the thugs stood to his feet as he saw his men lying on the floor out cold and not in any condition to offer him aid. He swallowed the lump in his throat as he gazed at the woman standing in front of him. He turned to see other men at tables minding their own business, he had no choice, and he had to attempt to hide behind someone. “I’m so tired of hearing your annoying voice.” He taunted as a plan was forming in his mind.
She let out a soft chuckle, “Well I’m tired of looking at you, but do you hear me complaining?” She stuck her tongue out and held the bottom part of her eyelid down, revealing the inside of it. Gabriel felt his eye twitch in annoyance as the woman in front of him acted more like a child than he did! Death, fighting, all of it was just a big game to her and she loved to play it. Vincent stood closely by, watching the scene unfold and also keeping his eyes peeled on anyone that may still get involved.
The leader gazed at Elizabeth dumb founded at being called ugly. He swallowed the want to argue with her as he shouted, “Ten gold pieces to the first person that brings me this bitch’s head!”
Ten gold pieces was a decent amount of money back then. A real gold coin was actually rather hard to come by, but they weren’t rare. The amount of labor one would have to do just to earn one of them was a great deal at that time, unless you came from noble blood or a merchant family. The desperate deal of the man did seem to spark some interest in people. Although it quickly changed when they saw Vincent standing in front of Elizabeth in a protective manner. “Ten gold coins aren’t enough for me to throw my life away.” A man commented as he went back to drinking his beer and minding his own business. Others agreed, not wanting to have to deal with Vincent, who seemed to be more menacing than the woman herself.
The woman laughed at his failed attempt to hire protection, “You really want my pretty face as a trophy?” She hugged her face as she posed in a cute manner, “I’m so honored.” She teased.
Vincent glared at the boss, letting him know he should choose his next words very carefully. The man ignored his warning, but shuddered under his dangerous glare. He looked at all the people he tried to rally up and forced himself to look brave, “You cowards!” He shouted out. “It’s just one man and his ***** are you all-” Before he could finish the rest of his sentence, his head was flying into the air and landed in a near by plate of food.
“Well I’m done with that.” The innocent by stander said as he pushed his plate away from him, not wanting to stare at the head that infected his lunch.
Vincent stood there as if nothing had happened, holding a sword in his hand as blood trailed down the smooth blade and formed a small pool below. Elizabeth ran over to the body and kicked it a few times, her way of getting revenge. She turned towards everyone else and asked, “Anyone else want a piece of this?” She asked in a cheery tone as she pointed to herself.
A small group of men stood to their feet, making Elizabeth retreat behind Vincent. They didn’t say anything as they started for the door, “Yeah that’s right, you better walk away!” Elizabeth yelled towards them.
Vincent glanced back at her, “Elizabeth, could you not make matters worse than what they already are?” He questioned in an empty tone, matching his facial features perfectly.
One of the men turned, stopping dead in his tracks. “You should put a muzzle on your woman, she talks too much.” He said in a bored tone as he started back for the door.
“You should put a muzzle on your face, it would make a nice accessory for you!” She taunted back at the man, still hiding behind Vincent.
The man’s eyebrow twitched in irritation, as Elizabeth’s words reached his ears. “Such insolence! You should shut her up, before I make her!” He threatened Vincent.
Vincent casually raised an eyebrow, “Are you really threatening me?”
“The coward is trying to talk big!” Elizabeth chuckled as she stood on a chair and wrapped her arms around Vincent’s neck, leaning her head against his. “Such big words should never leave the mouth of a little boy.” She said as a sinister smile appeared a crossed her face.
The man reached for his hilt, but his friend placed a hand on his shoulder. “If you let your anger take over, you will surely die. Both of them are dangerous and should be locked up for the actions they have caused here.” He sneered at them, but his friend calmed down and they headed back towards the door.
“Aw you’re no fun!” Elizabeth shouted out playfully as they walked out of the bar. She jumped down and skipped over to the dead man’s body that had offered the impressive amount of coin.
She dug into his pockets, looking for his coin purse as Gabriel walked over to her, peeking over her shoulder curiously. “What are you doing?” He asked, as she looked frantically for the coin.
“I’m looking for his money.” She said as if it were obvious. She grabbed a little black bag and cheered, “Found it.” She turned towards Gabriel as he watched her cautiously. “What is your name?” She asked curiously.
“It’s Gabriel.” He said softly, not wanting to make her angry, especially after the scene they had just caused.
“Elizabeth, you may want to hurry.” Vincent urged as his eyes darted towards the window, as if he were looking for something.
“Take this, he won’t be needing it where he’s going.” She said in a gentle tone, handing him the money she had just looted off the dead corpse. “Take care of yourself kid.” She smiled as she ruffled his hair. She started to walk away from him, but then turned, cheery aura surrounding her once more, “Why don’t you come with us?”
Gabriel’s eyes widen, he honestly didn’t want to be alone, but before he could give his answer, the authorities had burst into the bar. They quickly surrounded the two as the captain of the guards spoke up, “You two are under arrest.”
