I think it could be Obito, because it only shows Tobi's right eye until he replaces his left (assuming he even had an eye there) with Nagato's rinnegan, as well as (i know this isn't a strong argument) but the hair is similar if not the same, also back when (i think) Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura, Kiba and one or two more people were there (i don't know if Naruto was there with them at the time) and they were on their way to fight Kakuzu and Hidan but were stopped short by Zetsu and Tobi and when Kakashi looked into Tobi's eye he said to himself after their little skirmish, something along the lines of "no way" or something relative to that, because I think that Kakashi is saying to himself that he can't believe he survived, but once the manga gets further we'll all find out who is the man behind the mask.:shrug:

Why then is it that when Tobi's arm is removed that its made of white zetsu stuff inside rather than being normal

You no read he said that Tobi/Kagami was probably experimented on by 2nd Hokage by putting in Zetsu DNA into him to further create the next SO6P.

Anyway dude great theory you have almost fully convinced me that Tobi=Kagami.Good proof looking to further see how you account for Madara's knowlegde of Nagato.Tobirami could very well have experimented and not have died on that day.:worshippy:

obito is probably the least likely canidate out of all that can be considired.

In all honesty you've started a good, solid thread and very very believable. However, there are bits that still need to be covered, some even as simple as Kagami's motive. I presume that Kishi will reveal Tobi's identity soon and I have my my doubts (story-wise) that he will be a random background character that only those who frequent naruto forums would know of...

I don't think that it's Obito. If it was, how could Minato mistake him to be Madara when the Kyuubi attacked. Also there had to be another Sharingan eye behind the mask because he lost it when he performed the Izanagi when he was fighting Konan. If there wasn't another eye he would have lost his main Sharingan eye.

Who ever this 'man in the mask' is he has to be a copy-cat that picked up the name years after the original died or he has to have a way to regenerate himself if he knew the original first-hand. The Third Hokage was at least 70 yrs old when he died and he was the First's pupil when he was at least 10- 12. If the First fought Madara before he was a teacher than that's giving at least 60 years between the last time we saw Madara and knew for sure that it was the real Madara and now. They seemed pretty young maybe 20 when they fought so that would make the real Madara like 90 or something. So it can't be the original, his twin brother or even a student (who would be like 70 something) unless they had the Orochimaru or Tsunade thing going on. My best bet that it's some copy-cat survivor of the Uchiha Clan that read too many history scolls or something on the past of the Uchiha and decided to take up Madara's cause.

Now how the hell Madara knows Nagato. I really have no idea.

During the nine tails attack on konaha, two people are mssing during this. Those to people are Danzo and kagami. Now danzo might have just been laying low until it goes by. As for kagami where was he? Mikoto knew about the birth since she was kushina's friend. So the rest of the uchiha might have knows also.

Being an allie of danzo means he might also wanted the same as him, peace. So to do this he posed as tobi using this character as a chance for peace. He uses the name TOBI as a reference to TOBIRAMA. His fallen sensei who died honorably in battle.

Tobi was said to have helped Itachi with the massacre for the greater good of konoha but Madara would've never agreed to such a thing, with the pride of his clan in his heart, madara would never do such a thing. Kagami was friends with danzo. someone thought to conspire against the uchiha, he would've been an outcast amoungst the uchiha and whilst this is happening his team might have his back but the other villagers would grow suspicious. While madara was fabled to hold the Eternal Mangakyou Sharingan, Tobi has failed to even show us a mangakyou sharingan.

Their eyes also look rather similar. The both have slits toward the front of the eyes.

Also Kagami means mirror (鏡) This could explain a bit like how he's mirroring madara right now. So what do you think.
