I feel Madara had the similar ability. his better halve (offensive side )is splitted die during the battle against the first hokage ,while his defensive side survive the battle.
Madara was shocked because he saw that his offensive side was ressurected by kabuto and get nagato eyes to complete his other halve
This explain why madara said he was the shell of his old self and can only use space time jutsu (defensive) in battle and cannot use offensive jutsus .
This also explain why konan almost beat him too.He cannot use fire style jutsu and other offensive jutsu to kill her easily
.Also he counter sasuke amatersu with his defensive jutsu after sasuke fight itachi
