Sending 10 Bolts at you, out of which, 4 hit your Clones, and the others hit you from multiple Directions.

I was asked to check this fight, and i don't thing nocturnal's counter works.

The jutsu is used to go under ground not travel through any earth, but that asside, the lid is an higher rank that your technique, so i believe it wouldn't work. If you used a B rank i might say otherwise.

Rank Doesn't matter in this Occasion, it's still the same Soil/Earth/Ground.

Did you read the Last bit of the description?

This jutsu can also be used to avoid incoming jutsus.

Ok so lets see.
Would underground fish projection be able to go through the dropping lid. yes in theory its fully possible as the rank of the technique is determined by the complexity of the technique and how hard it is learn and master it. It doesn't however means a higher a technique would most certainly be more powerful, though its normally taken that higher ranks/difficulty would end up more powerful. Technique's even though more powerful have their respective weak points. I.e. Itachi stopping Chidori with his bare hands. He grabbed Sasuke's wrist. Another case would be Orochimaru merging with a tree to stop Anko's Twin Snake Mutual Death. Now consider a RP case, a huge Earth A rank earth wall, use any weaker technique to blast a hole right in the middle and the rest of the wall would crumble away. Similarly in this case Merging with the Earth is valid. However i doubt it can be done in all case like the swamp technique, or Jirobo's (was it?) Earth trap. Since they constantly have the opponents chakra running around and you wont be able to channel your chakra there.
Carry the battle on but the never the less discuss this in the sensei section afterwards.

No, you see, what happened in the moment of Impact was, I simply made my body into a material that can go through Earth, I didn't merge with it, I simply let it go through me.

It isn't, techniques where chakra flow in a object constantly are classified as Chakra Flow.

In dropping lids case however, it can be said the lid was summoning or the chakra was used to create it. You can't say its flowing through it. For further notice. There have been shown use of smoke and ink with the help of chakra. Can you its a element? Element is when you are able to create something using your chakra. Get the difference?
