IT is one of the basic five element and is very strong and stiff it is little bit slow in comparison of some other element like lightning and wind but is preety strong and have great advantage when used correctly mostly for defending as well as attacking although u need to be in contact with earth to use most of the jutsus but some exception are the underworld swamp used by jiraya on gamabunta (if i remember correctly) it is important as well powerful element in narutoverse . it has been by hashirama yamato kakashi kakazu and many others .

Cover your whole body in doton chakra and try to go underground. Once you are there, go beneath my clone and pull him down so that only his head is above the ground. Then come out.
