About the eyes

So i though of Izuna uchiha, when madara took his sharingan eyes it was said that izuna still battled in blind state and then died.
But couldnt they just inplanted him some normal eyes so he could at least see or that would not work?

OT: I think it has something to do with the actual structure of the sharingan eyeball. Because in real life you can't implant the eyes like that. I think it is the Doujutsus themselves that allow them to do that.
