Itachi would win, but Minato is also too powerful.. even Madara surprised of how strong he really is.. Itachi's chance of winning relies on Genjutsu's, don't tell me Amaterasu or even Susanoo please would work.. cause both of them won't even harm Minato, unless by chance.. Minato can dodge Amaterasu easily by using FTG, Susanoo is no use either.. cause the moment Itachi uses his Susanoo, Minato can teleport to some far away location and wait for Itachi to wear off then come back again to finish him off lol, so yea.. Itachi's chance is to have him trapped by Genjutsu, by either using a normal one or by using Tsukuyomi.. which is not hard to do for the master of all Genjusu's.

It would depend on who strikes first.
If Itachi were to use Genjutsu, or cover himself completely with Susano'o (Yata Mirror, etc included), then he would clearly have the advantage. That is, given he defeats Minato before his eyes deteriorate or his health weakens from Susano'o.
On the other hand, if Minato were to strike first and place a 'seal' on Itachi, then Minato would clearly be able to win. We don't even know the full extent of his abilities, so he might even be able to seal Dojutsu or the like.
Overall, it can't be said who would definately win because the battle could switch between the two.

sure,minato+he is a hokage and he almost killed madara when naruto was born(remember the manga)so....minato wins!!!
You people are crazy.how could you ever make a comparison with itachi against someone like minato.itachi is a child and is no where near the level at which jiraiya is.it is actually stated in the anime when itachi and kisame went to retrieve naruto and ended up seeing jiraiya,itachi himself said that even if there were more akatsuki members there to help out him and kisame,jiraiya would still win.jiraiya stated that he could eliminate both itachi and kisame (easily) at the same time.so it is actually clear that jiraiya is on a whole other level compared to itachi.and if itachi cannot beat jiraiya how could he even lay a scratch on minato.now do you see how stupid that comparison is.and one other thing,you should not assume how the battle will play out because you have to understand that you did not see all of itachi's or minato's abilities.remember that itachi has the sharingan so he is able to use all the elements that he copied over the years,you just did not see him use them.that also goes for minato,you did not see all of his abilities you only see the ones that are necessary for the fight he is in.and lastly stop the foolishness about susano being an unbreakable defence.So many people have found ways to get through the susano and i am pretty sure you will see other ways to breaking through the susano.eg.the mizukage used the acid mist to melt the bones of the susano which is the strongest part of it and the raikage also broke the bones with brute strenght.and i am also sure that using a genjutsu on the user will disrupt the flow of there chakra and ultimately the susano will be gone because the user is in a genjutsu and is not concentrated on keeping the susano's composure.and the genjutsu would work because the susano blocks physical attacks not mental.

Are you seriously trying to tell me that minato would be stupid enough to look at itachi's finger.
Before itachi's brain reacted enough to tell his fingers to move. Minato would have killed him. Now that's wat I call reflexes (quicker dan electrical impulses
).What use is genjutsu if the fight is over before you even try casting.

I agree, Itachi doesn't even come close to minato in terms of skills, speed, chakra or power. End of story. Minato is d strongest ninja eva!!, hands down!
Tell me.. when the **** did Itachi said that even if there were more Akatsuki members to help them out they would still not win against Jiraiya? and when the **** did Jiraiya stated that he would eliminate both Itachi and Kisame? I can't believe that some people still actually think that Itachi's and Kisame's retreat was a "fear" reaction from Jiraiya.. com'on, are you ****ing serious? how retarded is that? the fact is that Itachi told Kisame to retreat because he didn't want to kill anyone or cause any kind of trouble or disturb to the village that he loved, he just came out to check on Sasuke, nothing more.. and nothing less, why would he want to harm Jiraya or even anyone from Konoha after all what he did to them in order to keep them safe and protect the world from the war? we all know Itachi's intention and personalty, and how he turned out to be the kindest person in Naruto..

Dat logic isn't always true, bcos if you look at it this way "manda is weak against tsunade's slug, manda is stronger than gamabunta, but gamabunta is stronger dan d slug", so that's not a good way to justify the match. Besides naruto doesn't hv time space jutsus.

Because I don't rememba the entire quote exactly, but during kakashi gaiden, a guy said "don't even blink" - so that proves he is quicker than a blink of an eye!I think Itachi could beat Minato due to his Genjutsu knowledge.Even though Minato possesses great speed Itachi could capture him into his genjutsu within the blink of an eye.
Even with the speed Minato possesses he can't just dodge someones genjutsu,especially not Itachi's.So my opinion is Itachi

I agree, minato's reflexes are quicker, besides he liked bee, so he didn't want to kill him. So he left him alone. Minato is quicker than lightning.

This would be one of the greatest fights ever. And it is hard to tell who would win because of the lack of knowledge we have regarding both of them.
So Itachi would clearly win if he manages to catch Minato in a genjutsu, something i doubt he is capable of... even if he can cast a normal genjutsu just by pointing at you, for tsukuyomi he needs direct eye contact... something that is quite impossible to achieve if you're fighting the yellow flash.
Anaterasu would be useless because Minato can clearly dodge that.
And about Susanoo, well this is a problem because Itachi's susanoo was indeed the ultimate defense so Minato doesn't have any chance of harming Itachi... or does he? Well this depends on the way susanoo works... it acts as a shield around the user's body... but as you can see there is some space between the user and Susanoo and if Minato is able (we know he can, either by marking itachi, or putting a seal on the ground and luring itachi there) to teleport within that space then it is all over. But again i am not that sure about this one. But even so, Itachi can only sustain Susanoo for a couple of minutes max... and be sure that Minato can dodge his attacks.
So in the end it is hard to tell who would win... i will go with Minato but one wrong move and he is dead.

another thing is, look what sasuke did in the fight against the raikage, he know he couldnt keep up with the raikage but he used amerterasu on his suusanoo to stop the raikage. all itachi has to do is amerterasu the battle field or where ever minato throws his kunais. plus itachi is very good with his crow clones. itachi can beat minato
