What is a Sage EXACTLY??

rinnigan belong to uchiha and uzumaki combined...... well its a mutation that took place in nagato body as he had senju blood..... my theory though..... madra gave him only sharingan (uchiha dna) which mutated to rinnigan due to presence of senju blood so basically it belongs to SO6P who had both uzumaki and uchia dna.....

so this is your theory..interesting but i have another in mind though...

i believe that the rinnegan exist ahead of sharingan...the sharingan descended from the byakugan....remember that in the leaf village, the oldest KG is the Byakugan....and eventually they believe that the sharingan descended from that of the Byakugan....and the rinnegan is already the power of the So6P...

sage is someone having profound knowledge and capability.....who has full control over the knowledge he has...
now ...naruto has control over spiritual energy.....hence he is called a sage... but SO6P had control over 6 tings.... spiritual energy was one of them.....hence he is called sage of the six paths.....

the 2 one i.e senju is the clan having physical energy of the SO6P..... the were strong.... thats what sage mode does..... it is nothing else than the gathering of spiritual energy....

byakugan has more penetrating power than sharingan and it has telescopic power too..meaning it can see inside your body and at the same time it can see at a wider longer range...unlike sharingan it can only see or read your mind...

yeah you're right, although look at the stuff Kakashi, Sasuke and Itachi can do with their sharingan compared to what Neji or Hinata can do with their byakugan

Going off of the whole toad issue; seeing how if you take in too much natural energy you become a toad statue, I'd way that it is only taught by the toads.
Only Jiraiya and Naruto (not including toads) have been seen in the manga to have been able to use the Sage Mode. If it was more widely known, I'm sure that there would be a few more people that could use this form. Although people might not be able to get a complete form, or they do not use it due to the draw backs in battle.

This has always been confusing to me, and I really would like to have more of an explanation in the manga about the specific origins of the sage mode. Any insight would be welcome

well..... i can just say that those lines said by kakashi were just to make things seem epic (though it really was) but look at the thing madara said... two brothers thing..... on that bases i say that sharingan is the oldest and one more thing...... byakugan is mutation of sharingan and as a result it lost its other abilities but the viewing ability was enhanced..... but still ... i dont think that byakugan shows everything in slow motion like sharingan...
