Do you keep track of the anime/manga?

Nagato possessed the Rinnegan because of 3 main theories/causes.

The first being it was simply a mutation that caused him to have it.
The second being Madara/Tobi "gave" it to him.
The third being he got it due to him being part of the Uzumaki .: Senju .: Rikudo bloodline, but once again likely a mutation as well since nobody else has possessed it apparently since Rikudo Sennin.

It is a well known fact that the Sage had 2 sons, one became the Senju household, the other became Uchiha.
