The lightning element deactivates Deidara's clay for good, we can see this in Sasuke Vs Deidara fight. Where Sasuke uses Chidori senbon to deactivate Deidara's small clay bombs and they don't go off.

And yep, I do agree that the fight was not up to the expected mark, but I think we're looking at it from wrong end. What I'm trying to say is we're expecting too much from the revived member's just because they're once powerful when they're alive.

Also, as someone pointed out, it is not necessary that when a soul is revived it retains same power (ps: I'm saying power and not ability) as the original. Meaning, even though the revived ppl may retain their skills the body used as a sacrifice to tie down their soul to living world should be powerful enough to perform various jutsus and handle the backlash if any due to said jutsu.

About Sasori not being emotional when he was alive, that guy converted his whole freaking body into a puppet, how can we expect him to feel any emotion. Also, when he is defeated by Sakura, he does inform her about his meeting with a spy amongst Orochimaru's ranks. Here we can for sure say that he did feel something towards the end of his life which made him to reveal this information as he was not obliged to do so in any way.

Blah, that just sucks. Something that could had been such an epic battle was limited to such..blah. That's not the end of it though, can't be.

I guess kishi has a war to write and doesn't want to drag out each battle for like 5 chapters....Just wondering would you guys have enjoyed this battle more if kishi made akatsuki more effective and dragged out the battle for a couple more chapters and did that for every battle? Any thoughts?

I tought they would fight and see that they cant beat sasori and deidara because they are souls and in the last second there would fall a big flaming asteroid kill all of them and make a draw because this " ambush fight " is so important.

infact sasori the puppet master gets easy beaten like he dont know that kankuro could use him as a puppet, i only compare to last time they fought

and deidara fighting and reacting somehow slow ... well got to be something about not having their real bodies or like you said kishi just wants to get rid of them ...

even so that they where beaten it would be nice to see sai fight his brother why did he had to disappear :| long time in naruto shippuden without a real fight ,, everything ends on half ,, hope this is going to change

The funny thing is kabuto is letting this happen to stir the pot so to speak.
Since kabuto has left the souls of the ninjas intact and in full control of their own thoughts/feelings its going to bring the fighters even closer together and thus make their opponents less willing to kill off their friends. Eventually kabuto is going to bind their souls to the earth and take full control of them turning them into """mindless"""(<--- as stated) killing machines in which wont be able to release their souls from his control. AS seen sasori had to control sai's brother with his binds to actually force him to fight.

The big question is "will kabuto be able to resurrect the souls of the ninjas that have already been freed"

Hmm, I actually expected the Akatsuki to win at first... I thought:

-Sai would freeze up and become a little baby crying in the corner
-Sasori would overcome Kankuro (I didn't expect his new black puppet jutsu)
-Deidara would die because of Omoi anyway
-Shin would die because of someone anyway
-Kankuro and the others would get away, but not without suffering some casualties

If you look at the battle, the akatsuki did practically no damage. Sai is stronger with amazing new jutsus and happier than ever, Kankuro is now the best puppet master in Narutoverse, Omoi has proven himself to be an expert lightening user and swordmaster and tactician, and finally the ambush squad has succeeded in trapping and destroying 3 zombies (2 of which were extremely strong akastuki members). I have to say that I'm sorta surprised at the ease of the battle... if the rest of them go like this, the war will be a piece of cake for the shinobi, so long as the zetsu clones are all-powerful ninja.

As far as this chapter goes I finally understood why kankuro was made the leader he is pretty good at ambush planting Sanshōuo and a couple of Black Crows while positively using his teammates to draw out the enemy.

The only thing I didn't like was it was too short. Now I'm not one that wants to drag this out for 5 chapters or anything but I was hoping for at least two chapters with 2/3 of one chapter focusing on 1 character 1/3 of one chapter and another 1/3 of another chapter focusing on another and the last 2/3 focusing on another.

I mean I could easily still imagine how Deidara could fight against a lightning user I mean Omoi did mention that he knows "a little" lightning based jutsu so maybe kishi could have made him a close ranged type fighter and deidara using that to his advantage (setting bombs to explode before Omoi could attack it). I wanted to see Shin and Sai fight but I did like seeing Sai show some emotion. I'm a big fan of Puppets in the Narutoverse so I wished it lasted longer or seen Sasori with at least a single trump card puppet and all.

Can't wait for the anime to catch up though i'd still want to see this in motion.

Hmm... with this whole love conquers the edo tensei thing going on I predict that Shikamaru would think that the way to defeat Asuma is to show him Kurenai thinking his biggest regret is not being able to say goodbye but Asuma will still attack only when Shikamaru is beaten to an inch of his life will Asuma disappear knowing that Asuma's biggest regret would be not being able to protect his child.

Good chapter but im just hoping this is not the end os Deidara and Sasori already theyre getting whooped was not expecting that. It feels like the Akatsuki have been cheapened, I used to think of them as some of the best around but not so much if this is the best they can do.

Yea I agree his slow reaction was pretty he mustve been REALLY arrogant to have the reaction speed of a genuine....I guess when you always regenerate and feel invincible you don't really care about defending yourself.....also I think since resurrected people don't excactly know how much time has passed they don't know how much people have improved.....it's kinda sad that diedara only got serious at the end when he was going to blow himself up...also sad sasori didnt have the puppets he made...possibly kabuto didn't make them mindless killing machines because he didn't think they'd get into a serious fight so soon....there might also be a drawback of making them mindless like they can't think of new strategies and will always be a few steps behind....o well hope future battles last at least a little longer...

if its going like this there is more than a hand full of resurected ninjas who wont fight serious or tryin not to fight .... dunno what to think about this war cause if kabuto controls the ninjas they wont fight with full power because its not easy to handle them if you re not a puppet master. like oro tried and we saw how slow he moved 2 hokages not to imagine if kabuto would try more

my prediction would be that this whole war will be only like a side story (they wont show to much) but in the meantime naruto and bee will have to fight madara and or sasuke.

Yes from what we saw when Oro used the Edo Tensei tech Sarutobi did fight the 1st and 2nd Hokages with all their capabilities but as Sarutobi was able to handle both of them at that age I assumed that the Edo Tensei tech doesn't give the summons the full powers. In any case Kabuto being more efficient is more likely that it enabled him to summon and control more guys.

Gotta hand it over to u, u've got quite an imagination. But, I gotta say this, it is THE MOST ridiculous theory/idea I've ever seen/heard in the Naruto verse. But, if this comes to fruitition, i can see ppl falling over anime style twitching the whole time lolz.

i hope some thing similar will happen to asuma neji's dad and granny chio of sand and most of the elite ninjas whom we came across and more over sasuri will also release his soul from the earth since he found worthy opponent and similarly itachi will do the same and nagato will meet naruto i hope and use talk no jutsu and unbind him............

madara doesn't want kabuto anywhere near sasuke. and in this war kabuto is more valuable than sasuke... by far

and I'm sure sasuke wouldn't like to see his brother being manipulated into doing things for orochimaru's servant. not that he could do anything about it

Captain Spaulding and Revan, you two have good point out there. But its not quite disappointing as it looks like. Kankuro (and his team too, i guess) have really improved as compared to the time Akatsuki invaded the Sand. Kankuro even surpass Sasori. Regarding Deidara, what can he do against lightning users? The Alliance Shinobi knew their every weaknesses not to mention of their good combination. If they hadn't known their secret, things might turn out like it used to in early era of Shippuuden. Its just that Deidara and Sasori didn't have a chance against someone who knew all the weakness.

sasuke is a lightning user and abused it in combination of the sharingan to counter deideira. of course deideira gave him such a good fight because sasuke wanted to catch him alive, but that doesnt change the fact that he usually sits on a bird high enough to not be reached by anything.

with all the immortals around, he could have made a c4 or something, or just recklessly blow the whole place up, his lightning counter was a melee-fighter and he can fly. but instead of any cool massive explosions deideira used his clay for some cheesy tricks.
same goes for sasori. he originally had tons of complex puppets, but instead is using here just some chakra-threads to control some half-dead nins.

if you rewatch the manga, you will notice that deideira and sasori seriously do almost nothing the whole time. they are showing that they have their key-element, but arent using any jutsu with it. weaknesses dont mean that you are to lazy to do something in a fight. i want to see how this ambush squad should survive a c4.
