I've been seeing this gif all over the place. So I made the sensible decision of finally watching Dexter. Finished with Season 1. It's nice.

Oh wow lol. Welcome. I binged watched the show after highschool and Dexter and Breaking Bad made it hard for me to pick up another show because of how good they were. Dexter starts off super corny and cheesy. Low quality as well. But as the show goes on, it gets more grimy, serious and better production all while keeping its corny humor. It will ALWAYS keep you guessing and that's what kept me interested in it.

Funny as heck how you found out about it because of the meme though. That's hilarious.

I'm not really a gore type of guy, but I do enjoy detective/mistery type of stuff. Ye I also watched 2 episodes of Breaking Bad like 5 years ago, it was amazing but for some reason I got preoccupied with something else and stopped watching

I'm not really a gore type of guy, but I do enjoy detective/mistery type of stuff. Ye I also watched 2 episodes of Breaking Bad like 5 years ago, it was amazing but for some reason I got preoccupied with something else and stopped watching

Aaah, so it seems am gonna regret something about Dexter down the line

It draws one in for sure. But too much gore and leaves a negative impact as it goes on. They also added some supernatural element to it at one point down the line. The character in the meme got such a bad ending down the line that was off putting. But the worst part was that I noticed reading that book for that long I was in agitated state of mind, getting irritated too easily. When I realized that, I dropped it fast.

I like good detective stories or mysteries but I don't need extra angst and mindless violence that much. Chapter after chapter and it would leave an effect on your mind subconsciously even if you know it's a fiction.

I agree with what Avani is saying but the show is slightly different than the book. The further the series goes the more different it is than the book.

Was it so? It's been so many years that I don't remember the details to add to. When I dropped it, I wanted it completely out of my mind. I would be curious about the effect on an actor's mental and emotional health, after playing such a character for an extended period.
Sometimes I wonder if writers of such stories need their brains and backyards dug up to check, just in case.

Ye I feel bad for Doakes. If it happened directly under the hands of Dexter then I might've rage-quit the show.

I understand the angst part. For me, I feel really agitated when it comes to the relationship aspect of any show. So if you were looking at my screen from behind my back, you'd see me spamming the forward button whenever Rita's on screen.

Lmao I think it is mostly building up off of an already sometimes bleak reality. However, yeah. I am sure the mental toll on some actors is heavy. Some have come out and blatantly stated so.

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, for example. He said he went through some stuff to get that the way he really wanted that character.

Don't know if you are serious or not but I am sure most actors and producers have a very creative and bizarre mind which is what makes them good artist. But it makes sense that some get outted for terrible things.

I come up with some very questionable creative thoughts when it comes to my art, but rest assured, I am no criminal. But I know some people in Hollyweird are outright evil.

Wait did I unintentionally spoil something? My bad. My bad. Either way, in my honest opinion, the show is so worth finishing. It just gets better. There will be silly moments of course. Nothing is perfect but overall its an absolute bombshell of a TV show.

I was half kidding about digging up backyard of the writer. However, it's a guy sitting at his desk writing books after books about a psycho killer. Who is to say he is not letting out his inner Dexter on paper.

After all writers get inspiration from somewhere- it's either something they see, read or hear about or experienced first hand.

You guys made me wonder whether I should try the books again just to see where I was, but just a thought.

Same here. A lot of times I watch drama with one finger on FF button.
