Im glad there's continuity though.
Though I wish they'd animate those comics already

For years I believed that if there ever was going to be a next installment, it would either have been centered around one of the Avatars directly preceding Aang (Roku, Kiyoshi, Kuruk...) or one of the many unknown Avatars between Wan and the current era.

The former scenario had the benefit that there's already a reasonable amount of source material and an estimate of how popular it is with the fanbase. The latter scenario has the advantage that they could craft an entirely new story without retroactively (negatively) impacting the existing installments because the time gap is extremely wide.

In contrast, an Avatar directly succeeding Korra would create some issues as either:
  1. You would end up with an Avatar in a contemporary or even futuristic setting based on the speed of the socio-economical and technological advancements during Korra's time. This would be so far removed from its own roots it basically becomes another franchise.
  2. Kill off Korra at a very young age. This way you could still contain the advancement, but in the end this would just be a very temporary solution, and this would feel like like an extreme slap in the face of Korra fans.
  3. Employ some kind of cataclysmic or apocalyptic narrative so that there's a credible in-universe reason the advancement was stopped. This of course would not only be an extremely drastic way of doing things, but it also would retroactively affect TLA and TLOK in particular.
I never thought they would have the guts to go for scenario #3, but it seems I underestimated the show runner's desire to tell certain narratives in comparison to maintaining the integrity of their own franchise.

I think it's already going to be problematic for Pavi to learn the basic elements as, unlike her sister who was raised by the White Lotus and believed to be the Avatar, Pavi was alone and unaware she's the Avatar.

Though, I can imagine that due to the collapse of the old world, new applications were discovered for the existing elements.

Looking at #2 makes me wonder... will the new avatar only be able to talk to Korra? All the past lives are gone now because of the whole Unavaatu thing.

I read that Kiyoshi bended ink and glass lol
Would be cool to see this.

Who knows. Normally, it should be. However, you need to take into consideration that the premise of this installment is that Pavi and her sister are still extremely young and in search of their mysterious origins. The ability to converse with the past lives, is something you need to learn and it's questionable they could already do it when it's not even clear who now the real Avatar is supposed to be if the leaks are true.

An important part of the setting is also how the world ended up like that and that the Avatar got blamed for it. So, rationally speaking it's almost an obligation to be able to converse with Korra at one point. Though, I hope it's being kept to a minimum as I really don't want this to start being all about Korra.

Interesting. Given that the connection was destroyed, maybe one one of their big challenges would be to mend the connection if its at all possible. They made made it sound like Korra is now the beginning of the cycle, like Wan was. Its like Aangs failure was the wiping out of the air nation, which Korra fixed; Roku wasn't there to prevent the fire nation from becoming evil and killing the air nation among other things, which Aang fixed etc.
Nevertheless im excited to see more of the Avatar universe. I agree too, don't really wanna see Korra too much 🀣

As much as I would want to, I doubt they're going to have plot centered around restoring the connection.

The Air Nation genocide wasn't really Aang's fault; that would've gone through whether he ran away or not, and I do not think the odds would be in Aang's favor if he had to deal with a comet-powered Sozin.

And Korra bringing back airbenders was a fluke, in advert result of a decision that would also bring chaos and anarchy alongside it. So, it's debatable whether it was worth it. The ones who were actually responsible for bringing back Air Nomad culture, was Tenzin and his family. However, as character art of confirmed airbenders in ASH has already been released and none of them seem to have Air Nomad tattoos, it's questionable how much of that has survived.

Some new unconfirmed spoilers have been released by the same guy who basically releases all the leaks.

So far, most of it is unconfirmed, but you can't ignore either that this franchise has since its inception been plagued by a serious leaking issue and he was correct about the initial premise of the series before it was officially announced.

Key points:

  • There's an active propaganda campaign in the city of Elora to discredit Korra & the Avatar.
  • Benders are on the brink of extinction; the existing ones are forced to become part of a brigade that fights the energy storms.
  • The time period between Korra's death and Pavi's birth seems to be much longer than normally is the case.
  • Both Pavi and her twin are shown to be able to bend all elements, however that they both could go into the Avatar State, is not certain.
  • When the two meet after having been separated for years, the city is struck by an energy storm that triggers a vision that incites them to go on a journey to find out the truth.

For me, the third point I find the most intriguing as it does more or less provide a vague explanation of some of the anomalies. It has been established that Pavi is the Avatar succeeding Korra and not that there was an entire Avatar cycle between them as some people wanted to believe. Still, the time frame was a bit off as Korra couldn't have lived long after the cataclysm occurred and Pavi is still very young. So, the period between those two normally would be what? A decade? Which seems way too short for how the world has been portrayed so far.

Now, if the time frame really is significantly larger while still adhering to the Pavi is Korra's successor requirement, then that means something or someone directly interfered or affected the Avatar reincarnation cycle, which also could explain why there are potentially two Avatars. There was a bug in the system. At least it's more interesting than the Raava & Vaatu scenario people keep bringing up.

And storms have been mentioned multiple times in the leaks, but how do you fight a storm? Though, it seems rather obvious the storms are somehow spirit-related, but the fact that it supposedly strikes on the moment the two twins are about to meet, makes me think that either the storm itself is a spirit or being controlled by one and that it wasn't really a coincidence it struck at that specific time.
