Ehm not really =/ if that would be the case there wouldn't be some many people complaining about him. One of the most hated things about him is that he's no surprise at all. He only surprisded once and that was when he fought Ulquiorra. Outside that not really, he's far under Luffy and Naruto.

I love it when the put a random scene into the anime that wasn't included in the manga, without altering the story line, and making it really pleasant to watch. Like the flashback with Ace and Garb, when they were eating around that campfire.

It's not like Naruto anime trying to do the same thing OP does by adding some random scene into the anime, making it look really stupid and dull.
Like when Sasuke fought against Deidaras stupid clay monsters.. with his sword....
