theres only 3 people so far that weve seen awaken their devil fruit in onepiece, kataruki, dofi and the zoan guards of impel down.
How did they awaken it? Here’s the answer! Death. Yeah you have to die to awaken your devil fruit and come back to life again somehow. This is why this is rare to happen its because theres only few people who manage to escape death after being dead.
this is what i think would happen luffy might die during the current arc. And get revived by someone after being revived luffy manage to talk to his devil fruit kinda like ichigo when he talk to his sword, or maybe he will search within him the power to awaken his devil fruit. This change of tide could change the war in an instant luffy might solo both kaidou and big mom.
