How did a retard like Tobi get into Akatsuki?

I think.......they actually enjoyed his company, like clearly they were annoyed by him the fact the didn't outright just kill him had to mean something, right? At first, they probably saw him as this guy the leader accepted to be a possible recruit......albeit a incompetent one. They didn't mind him hanging around, especially with Zetsu.

Like- Sasori was clearly annoyed but, didn't kill him. None of them did. Goes to show, in the end, they didn't mind at all.

Because the initial leader and creator of the Akatsuki was Nagato, and Obito needed the Rinnegan and manpower in order to complete Madara's plan.
After Yahiko's death, Nagato had a drastic mindset change and decided to follow Obito's and Madara's plan, so Obito joined Akatsuki and became their actual leader pulling strings from the shadows while Nagato (Pain) was the facade leader, and Obito adopted his Tobi persona to erase suspicion.
Only Konan, Obito and Nagato knew what was actually going on and probabily Itachi. Kisame also discovered it later, as Obito decided to tell him the truth and take his mask down in front of him.

Him being there doesn't erase suspicion; It creates more. Most of the Akatsuki didn't know of Tobi's existence to question it beforehand, and those that did would only feel more concerned when he joins.
