Honestly even if he did do that, Danzo would probably find a way to blame the Uchiha for it. Letting it take place might be the best option LOL. I agree somewhat, but Itachi did have sound reason and judgment (at the time) benefiting the praise from The Third Hokage "his reason was just like a Hokage". He looked at the bigger picture and the village as a whole, instead of from the perspective of the Clan.

Maybe that could work, but Danzo was closed-minded and the elders followed him. If the Uchiha did find out that the Hokage and the elders ordered a massacre against them, they'd be even angrier that, that was the extent of distrust it came to. Honestly, it feels like there is nothing you could do in that situation without a lot of casualties LOL

I agree with this to a degree. Tell the clan, make sure they don't revolt since Konoha knows. Then careyvon as Normal. Engage in the odd bit of assassination of the elders here and there. Also, expose the clan to jutsu and high degree combat. That way they would jump several tiers, a reason Tobirama decided to isolate them was so they don't full develop their powers. And kill Shisui, killing him is very important.

Uchiha clan had issues. The fact they went for a coup instead of peaceful public protesting shows how utterly screwed in the head they are. Itachi couldn't do anything to change these fools. Uchiha's problem was the surveillance Danzo put them under. Danzo's reasons was legit as far as the in-universe goes but the Uchiha proved him 'right' by planning a coup. Absolute clowns.

Itaxhi was out in a hard place and could do nothing. Shisui's solution of mindraping the Uchiha elders into peace was the best. Too bad it didn't happen.
