Do you think that Sakumo Hatake was weak for killing himself?

I know this is a heavy topic, because anything said on this matter is going to reflect how we feel about real-life suicide. But at least try to carry out a serious and mature discussion, and be considerate of those more sensitive to the subject. Also, please don't bring up how fodder Sakumo is, that really isn't relevant.

I'm not going to say whether or not it was weak until I see what everyone else thinks; but I will say that it was definitely selfish. Kakashi was going through a lot of things as a child. He was already without a mother, he got cut in the face, his best friend was crushed by a boulder, his second best friend was Jinchūriki-raped and then used him as a suicide tool, his Sensei was impaled through the stomach by a giant fox-tail. If I were Kakashi, I'd be borderlining insanity, let alone in need of comforting and relief. Yet, Sakumo seemed more concerned with what the village thought of him, rather than the fact that his son might need him. I can't imagine how Kakashi must have felt to come home and find his father dead, or the loneliness he felt when he began going through the things he went through. I'm sure Gai filled the void somewhat, but Kakashi always went home to an empty house. He never had the chance to say goodbye, his heart was probably filled with anger and regret and I wouldn't be surprised if he started blaming himself for what happened, thinking that maybe he could have done something differently. He was a kid after all; and despite being a genius, I'm sure he was vulnerable to the emotional burden of his father's suicide. And don't get me started on puberty; no wonder Kakashi never married, no one ever had the talk with him. Kakashi is more similar to Sasuke than he is to Naruto, at least in terms of their original story. Kakashi had a close relationship with his father, he knew what it was like to love, and to have that love taken away.

I know it's seems kind of...wrong, when someone takes their life and all you can think about is how it affects you, without really grasping the depth of how they felt in the moment before their death. But at the same time, when they're dead, they're not really affected anymore...it's only you, stuck here with these feelings, and these questions.

Pretty weak. Even if you're shamed publicly, you've still got a son to raise. Suicide is selfish, and I think this about it IRL too. Plus most of the time when it's committed its done out of complusivness and a lack of rationality.

Well Shisui also did suicide for the greater good of the village does that make him weak?

Ot: Yes He did it for a personal reason, without thinking for anyone else but himeself.

Any form of suicide is weak.

Shisui’s suicide was just a handoutl for Itachi to gain two MS.

The citizens of konoha are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. We dont know exactly how important was the mission he abandoned to save his comrades and what kind effect did have for konoha. He could have saved five comrades but doomed like 500 konoha shinobi because of that mission. He goes from a man who more famous than the sannin to the most despised. If there ever be stories about characters in naruto. Sakumo hatake story would be incredible. From a hero to a zero all because he did what he thought was right.
