[Discussion] We know they're going to fight...(Boruto and Kawaki)

Something's come across my mind recently regarding Boruto and Kawaki.

It's probably already been beaten to death that starting this series with a flashforward was probably a bad idea but it happened and now we know the following information.

Kawaki is going to become an enemy of the Leaf.

and

Naruto may or may not be deceased.

...that I wanted to see how Kawaki's relationship with Boruto played out, and I'm still genuinly intruiged by the idea of these two sharing screen time <3...but..

I wonder if the payoff (if there is any) when we finally get to the part that was in the flashforward will be at all worth it.


What could they possibly do to make their relationship interesting enough for me to care that kawakii is going to inevitably betray them.


Any thoughts and what they could do? or maybe should have done?

Subvert expectations. Kawaki actually has a noble reason for doing everything in the flashforward and is fighting Boruto because Boruto doesnt understand the magnitude of the situation with Kara. Kawaki actually sent Naruto to a safe pocket dimension to protect him from Jigen and wants to sens Boruto to the same place but Boruto refuses. Something interesting like that.

Also, make Kawaki like actual family to the Uzumakis, an actual son to Naruto and brother to Bolt
(not blood related, just very close)

That's interesting. Make it seem in the end that Kawaki has had good intentions all along. Or at the very least since a certain point in his relationship with the Uzumakis. I think they could probably pull something like that off, despite Kawaki's threatning air in the beginning chapters. What he said to Boruto felt more like a threat than anything, though, maybe it's only worded that way because of Kawaki's genuine lack of communication/social skills.

In a way that sort of makes me think of Bakugou in My Hero Academia. though I might be reaching a bit with that comparison.
