well the strength is obvious only a blind fanboy of certain character will disagree
( Especially Itachi fanboys , and i'm surprised that he has some fans left ! )
so let's compare Madara with Itachi ( even though it's unfair for itachi since he is way inferior to Madara )
1 - Pure Talent + Knowledge

if he felt he will lose or there is a big threat , he is the type of guy to hit and run

due to the weak chakra he has that's why he is very limited
and actually madara favorite thing to do is fighting and anticipate in battles
he has the leader blood in him

Finally as we know sadly he was defeated not by the whole alliance of strong ninjas
by plot no jutsu , most of us agree that manga went downhill when rabbit alien woman introduced
who was defeated by 3 teens
Madara is not the most talented and strongest character amoung Uchiha
but in Naruto overall
and he is that strong without a bijuu inside of him
how he needs a bijuu like kyuubi when he one shotted him ?

Finally Comparing to Major Villains or people who took the dark path in Naruto
