It’s not a contradiction considering that I literally said that his spamming of genjutsu is what makes him cowardly in my OP, you and almost everyone else here, just decided to ignore it.

Any time you have to try to fight someone and you have to worry about having sand tossed in your eye, you automatically say that your opponent is a coward. He will still fight you straight up but he’s going to give himself the ultimate advantage, by taking out the eyes.
Now in Itachi’s case, it’s far worse, he has you trapped the very moment you meet. And it’s not just your eye sight that he has but all of your senses, and in doing so leaves your body idle and he could kill you while you’re trapped in the genjutsu.
