I wish they had gone with something like that. The whiskers are just a big turn off for me. Especially since they represent Kurama's influence which Boruto is 100% exempt from as per what the manga says. So it's a pointless, meaningless design altogether with an unnecessary throwback to Naruto's Kurama channeling days.

And the whisker blunder is largely why liking Boruto has been a really difficult task and taking much more effort than it did Naruto.

Why couldn't they make Boruto totally different from both Naruto and Minato? Couldn't they do that if they were going to give Boruto some of their perks and quirks anyways? And we got to stomach Rasengan barrages and more of where that came from, when a Sasuke archetype is what they're going for here.
