He can forgive himself. The solo god can forgive anyone. He's more sentient than god/allah/jesus etc. Etc.

He literally pointed Sasuke into the path of hatred and power seeking bloodlust. 'hate me, despise me, and gain power to kill me'

'you are weak because you lack hatred'

Weak, spineless, amoral, god complex.

This is true, to some extent - though I think this was a bit of an attempt at reverse psychology that was hinted at with Sasuke's decision to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan by a way other than killing his best friend (which, itself, was a bit of a lie from Itachi). Itachi wanted Sasuke to despise everything about his choices and actions and to choose a different path. He wanted Sasuke to "never be like him."

A plan which Itachi later admitted was probably a bad one.

It is also worth noting that Itachi wasn't planning on Sasuke finding out about the Uchiha massacre. In his plan, Sasuke would kill him and then begin finding new meaning in the world, having satisfied his need for revenge/closure. So, he had a bit of a contingency in place for if Sasuke did become too consumed with hatred.

Not saying it was good or healthy... but, the world of ninjas, apparently, doesn't think the same way most of us do.

Nope. Itachi's spiritual plane has a lake created from his tears.

He’s an anime/manga character that doesn’t truly have a train of thought unless it’s depicted on paper. In other words, nothing shows he did.

Someone gets it...
Itachi is created by Kishi.... Only Kishi knows the answer since it wasn’t stated in the manga.

We know he didn't have remorse or regret for his actions while he was alive. However on learning Sasuke had gone against his(the saviour's) planning he expressed some regret at the end of the Kabuto fight. Although I put that down entirely to him trying to manipulate Sasuke again and try to create a saviour complex in Sasuke.

Nice thread.

I dont think he ever forgave himself, and i think thats the reason for his illness - and the reason he told Sasuke to hate him is to make him strong.

Im sure that he was torn up about it, and i dont think he ever did forgive himself.
sasuke is probably the only thing that kept him going, if sasuke had died, i think his loyalty to the village would have been shaken hard.
Sasuke was his only silver lining, he couldnt have forgiven himself, not until sasuke did
