My theory is that even though he probably thought it was best, he did think it was a bad action to do what he did.

When he told his brother to hate him, I don't think he was pretending, I think he felt guilty about it, I think he didn't see any better option but in the end the action was cruel and that didn't escape him.

He had no mercy on them Uchihas.

It's difficult to say since everytime we saw him he was screaming about Konoha this or Konoha that.

Maybe it's denial. He doesn't want to accept the fact that what he did indeed was an atrocity.

Also: just like Sasuke, he didn't have anyone to truly express his feelings. Without being called on or shunned.

So probably: who knows?

Obito pretty much killed 97% of the clan.
Itachi killed his parents which were 2% and Sasuke who was the 1% was spared.

No but he died content with his actions.... I don’t think you could forgive yourself for killing women, children but most of all your family no matter why you did it.

That's not what happened, his parents were the only killings shown. If Itachi shinden is anything to go by Itachi massacred and murdered kids in front of their parents without any regrets. He did some other f'ed up shit as well some of them weren't clean kills but also torture as well.

OT: I never once heard Itachi she'd a tear for his actions, why would he forgive himself when he never had regret.

Wasn’t he crying when he was about to kill his parents? Wasn’t that a tear when he looked back at sasuke from that light post before he left?

I'm sure he felt that he deserved death for what he did, and that the best possible thing would be for his brother to gain closure for himself and honor for the family in killing him.

That's not regret for his actions the cold blooded murder of his clan, torture and brutalising kids in front of their parents speaks for itself. He was only crying because instead of fight him his parents surrendered and he had to kill them in cold blood while Sausage was on his way in.

This is the only thing that makes sense. 3T even MS Itachi killing a clan of adult 3t users is ridiculous. Defensive Kamui too OP.

True. Although I think that Itachi suppressed any feeling due propaganda being enormous in his mind.

Also: it makes me wonder why Itachi never put himself out of the drama.
Maybe he has a Saviour Complex.

When he cried maybe it was the last straw. He was human after all.

But that doesn't excuse him staying quiet like he was a nobody infront of the Elders. He was the ONLY link. He was ANBU captain.
He was the next clan leader.
Yet when he heard his clan was going to be wiped out he just put his head down.

Disturbing.

He definitely has the saviour complex he even tried to control Sasuke and guide his actions from beyond the grave.

Because Itachi was a good dog raised on the path of selling himself. He should've realised Hiruzen was scum he couldn't kill his own student who was kidnapping konoha ninja and experimenting on them. Yet was willing to oppress and wipe out a clan who were standing for their right. Itachi should've called that worthless fodder kage oit.

That's the most disgusting thing he did after the massacre. The man can't seem to stop.

What kind of morals he thought he had good enough to guide a pure kid like Sasuke?

Konoha was really lucky to have such a powerful and yet so brainwashed person.

I don't know why the manga keeps telling he had Hokage reasoning since 7 years old.

When they say Hokage reasoning they mean the will of Nazirama. The primary objective developed by that reasoning is to isolate and kill of the Uchiha Clan.

Strange enough in part 1 we thought of Itachi as a monster. And in part 2 his villain side gets even bigger - even if Kishimoto tells us he is a hero.

I don't know why there are people who justify Itachi's actions. It's like spitting on civil rights.

Madara would've destroyed Koharu and Hiruzen if he heard it all right in his face.

Itachi is too weak willed.

Itachi openly stated his own actions to be sins. He wanted sasuke to be the one to kill him not only to hopefully gain new power, but to also die at the hands of the last Uchiha, believing it to be the rightful fate for the one who killed the clan.

Itachi did not express Regret, but he did express plenty of remorse.

Going by canon sources, only, we don't have much information on how Itachi killed the clan. I'll exclude CNN's merchandising from my evaluation of his character, and assume he didn't have a whole lot of time for torture in the middle of attempting to murder a whole clan in a single night.

I don't think Itachi ever really sought forgiveness for his actions. Not to say that I don't think he felt any guilt or questions about it, but that I think he saw himself as simply a cog in the wheels of a much larger machine. He had faith that the ninja world would become a better place, and was content to allow his actions, evil good or otherwise, to be a contributing factor in that outcome. I think, in many ways, Itachi believed that the entirety of the Uchiha was not fit for that world, including himself. Itachi saw the Uchiha's way of thinking as being entirely contradictory to any kind of enduring peace, and his isolation from the village was as much self-imposed as it was a consequence of his actions. Itachi saw himself and the Uchiha as part of a past best left to the past, and thus, likely saw himself as the arbiter of a judgment that would play out over time... either all at once, or bit by bit over generations.

Basically, I would say that Itachi saw the Uchiha as having no future, and was more than willing to accept his own removal from a better future. The only person he couldn't destroy the future of, so easily, was Sasuke, and he desperately hoped Sasuke would find a way out of the same path of thinking that the Uchiha were in. As such, he likely felt a great amount of despair, but never really would have sought forgiveness in the same sense we typically think of it.

He literally pointed Sasuke into the path of hatred and power seeking bloodlust. 'hate me, despise me, and gain power to kill me'

'you are weak because you lack hatred'

Weak, spineless, amoral, god complex.
