He wanted to replicate Kaguyas power but his method was flawed.
Kaguyas method for gathering chakra was genius really.
1. Cast a genjutsu on the world.
2. Use Deep forrest emergence to cocoon them and sustain their life while you drain their chakra/life force.
3. Culminate all that chakra into a single focal point.
Thats how you suppose to do it.
Momoshiki thought going around absorbing individuals chakra was going to give him a fruit. That wouldve took a lifetime and isnt anywhere near as efficient as option 1.
