I never saw him defeat Itachi, but I did see him defeated by black Zetsu, who, knowing of Kaguya's power, still called Itachi invincible.

Itachi confirms their entire fight was nothing but lies. Including his appraisal of Madara. Which should have been fucking obvious considering he lied about everything else.

Itachi knew nothing of the word parallel. He was a monster but yet the most sensible. Hes the most notorious shadow ninja. Not only did he breed sasuke into his MS/EMS but he shifted the tides twice in the war arc. Itachi is the true solo king so boss he rather give the glory to somone lesser.
