A Florida jury has awarded four dollars for funeral expenses and pain and suffering to the family of a man killed by police.
In 2014, 30-year-old Gregory Hill Jr was fatally shot at his home in Florida by St. Lucie County Deputy Christopher Newman, CNN reports. Newman and another deputy responded to a noise complaint made by parents picking their children up at the school across the street. The deputies first knocked on the front to no answer.
According to reports, the deputies knocked on Hill’s garage door but as he opened the door and saw it was police he tried to close it. However, Newman opened fire, hitting Hill three times, including a shot to the head, claiming he fired his weapon because he saw Hill with a gun.
While charges were never filed against Newman, back in 2016, Viola Bryant, Hill’s mother, filed a lawsuit against the Newman, claiming he violated her son’s 14th and 15th Amendment rights.
However, last week the jury on the case ruled that Newman was not liable for Hill’s death. The jury awarded Bryant one dollar for funeral expenses and one dollar to each of his children.
The decision was called out by the family’s attorney John Phillips. “A black child's pain is only worth a dollar is exactly the problem with the plight of the African-American right now. This says, black lives don't matter,” he said.

While a lot of these cases can seem quite unnecessarily one sided in their blame of police officers, this one lies mostly on the fault of the officer. I mean how the f*ck did he somehow gain x ray vision to determine Hill's gun was in hand. Granted, Mr Hill certainly shouldn't have closed his door. I suppose fear overcame him and he acted irrationally, not to mention he was heavily intoxicated. A better rationally calm thinking officer however would've prevented this entire thing to begin with.

Whether you think the officer is wrong liable for Hills WRONGFUL death is one thing but giving the his wife and four children $4.00 to bury him is another. Your right, the officer may have not known where is gun was but the fact of the matter is that he didn’t deserve to die becuase of that mistake (if true). The least the state of Florida could’ve done was pay for a funeral.

Yeah I hate the hypocrisy when ppl try to sweep those kinds of stories under the rug. History and Politics is all about narrative.

I seen comments with silly niggas trying to make excuses for the young men who killed her. He deserves what he will get. I blame the parents.
