If you guys remember in part 1 during the academy/genin phases. Wood replacement use to be that cool jutsu to troll the noobs.

Essentially, this trick became obsolete after part 1 as most ninjas could easily counter it or knew it was a waste.


However.... Wood replacement was powerful enough to defeat Madara EASILY.

After getting fooled by fake wood, Madara's learned the difference and called Hashirama out for leaving him with a clone during the war. I think his eyes would be able to trail the movement too.
