Gaara's main strength iz his sand defense... But in war arc we find out dat Gaara's sand protections cums from his Mom! Teh sand iz her will... dat means that Gaara has no control over most of his defenses and therefore cannot improve it himself...this is teh downside of having an auto defense

dat means 2/3 gates level speed iz enough to bypass gaara defense just like it was during genin exams this explains why gaara got low-diff by kakatsuki member like deidara who only use a handful of bombs... this also explains why gaara became a simple support ninja in part 2

Maybe 4 Gates and up. Lee was in 4th gate and still lost. Gaara may not have been able to control his defensive sand against that blazing speed, but he was perceptive and quick enough to coat himself in a sand barrier to take the bulk of the damage and swap out with a sand clone the moment Lee flinched.

After looosing his Bijuu though I’m sure he took a dip in power but not by much. So you might be right though maybe between 4 and 5 Gates. You don’t actually know that he couldn’t improve it. It’s his Mom’s chakra but his own is also permiated in that sand and the gourd.

Keep in mind that even at the 4th gate Gaara walked away without a scratch on him. Took a hit to his chakra but lee never landed a direct hit to Gaara. That’s impressive for a kid.

- Regular sand would protect Gaara irregardless of his will. Gaara gets sand, infuses his own chakra in it to increase its speed and strength thereby improving the abilities of the regular auto sand. lmao.
