We all know Itachi was and still is Kishimoto's favorite character. He's even commemorating Itachi through parellels in Boruto, the pt.3 of Naruto, so Itachi has not only been a very profound character since pt.1 up till pt.2 before Naruto took an L after his demise (which proves Itachi was the sole reason this series was still watchable), but after he dies, it goes downhill but is temporarily saved when he and Nagato are revived by Kabuto. Then again, proving Itachi is the true light of this series, the series is eternally ruined when he's put to eternal slumber and is taken over by alien shit that was definitely not what we signed up for, which is now basically the defining aspect of this series as now the main character's two main powers are centered around alien shit. But Itachi still lives through Sasuke and Sarada as his philosophy has been embraced by the former, and Sarada displays talent in genjutsu that is akin to Itachi to an extent. So in fact, Itachi is still alive, but in the legacy he has left. I'm sure they have a section for him in the Uchiha history book that has songs of praise for Itachi among other things.
