Yeah that's another thing that I think they made a mistake with in regards to the anime. Don't get me wrong, I MUCH prefer their solution to "filler" so far by simply having the anime set during Boruto's academy days (a prequel to the manga in a way), but I really wish they either waiting a few more years to release the anime or actually committed to keeping the anime in the current time era for another few years to give the manga some time to build up canon material.

True. I also wanted the series to wait at least 3-5 years before releasing, to give it some time so that they could adapt the story right after the Movie Arc. But they wanted to tell the origin stories, on screen like the Gaiden's for example.

But in regards to your timeline confusion - I think you'd be better off thinking of the two (anime/manga) as two different beasts. For the time being that is. The manga premiered first, so I'd ignore the anime temporarily when you're trying to get a feel for where we are in the story. The first 10 chapters of the manga was the movie recap, so let's also temporarily ignore that arc since the movie recap was arguably just used to test out/rework a few things before the actual manga began. With all that in mind, that would mean that technically we're only in the first arc of the manga (at least that's how I like to view it). Or in other words, things are only JUST now getting started. The anime fits back into that puzzle with again, being a prequel of sorts to the manga.

Man that sucks. Hopefully it doesn't take a decade or so to finish the story.

You would think that a spin off from a series that spent 15 years to lay the groundwork, would mean that this 'story' wouldn't need another 10+ years to finish its story.

I would hope for at least 5-6 years in total.
