me and a mutual from tumblr were having a discussion on how they would improve boruto and this is what they wrote:

1. Reverse the Timeline

- This is never a bad idea for any story because building upon a story that’s already been built only makes the journey of how it got there far more interesting (what Boruto misses the mark entirely for) than what we are presented with in the beginning.

- Developing the clans pre-naruto. What we definitely are aware of is that the Uchiha’s and Senju’s were generational power houses. What we don’t know is what happened to the Uzumaki Clan, what happened to the Namikaze Clan, when did the Hyuuga Clan become relevant, what about the Sarutobi Clan was significant (because their fire technique is the Uchicha Clans special technique aside from their kekkei genkai’s) what about the Haruno Clan? The Izunuka Clan? The Akimichi Clan? Yamanaka Clan? Aside from knowing what their special techniques are, we don’t really know anything else about these clans and it feels empty when they are on screen because we know nothing about them. Part of having a large cast is developing them well, not just having them there to take up space. We want to know about them too, we’d like to hear about their aspirations and dreams outside of supporting Naruto aspiring to become hokage. We can accomplish this by reversing the timeline and starting before Naruto’s generation.

2. Make the Villians More Threatening

- Everyone unamamiously agrees that the Akatsuki were killed off way too easily. Especially when they were brought back to life. Introducing the Akatsuki when they did was fine, we don’t need to change that, however make their goals far more personal. We know as an organization they were assembled to gather the tailed beasts, but what about what they were accomplishing outside of the organization? The Akatsuki could have been powerhouses, they could have been developed far better and far more if they weren’t nuked early on in the series. Instead of the asspull ways that they died, I think they should’ve been around after the war arc, especially because once it ended they were thrown away. Have them split up and go into hiding, but do something else with them rather than killing them off. They were true antagonists and they were damn good at it.

- Introduce The Last villain (momoshiki & toneri) far sooner. The reason no one likes these villains is because they have weak mindsets and came out of nowhere with bizarre motives. When the Akatsuki was introduced, Toneri and Momoshiki should’ve been in the background making their moves as the Akatsuki were moving in. Doing this would help lead you from one arc to the next, because we are shown glimpses of threats even greater than an entire organization of people, like holy shit who is this guy? What’s he planning? During the war arc it would’ve made sense to introduce toneri then, not for his motives, but something a little more unique, perhaps instead of marrying hinata he wants..to repopulate the earth with his clan, kind of following behind madara’s path of starting over since he believes the world is corrupted. Point is that he wouldn’t feel like an asspull and irrelevant character or villain, especially if you sprinkle him throughout the plot before his major appearance in the first place. We had that with madara, we were given inclination of who he was and how powerful he was by like consistent story telling of setting up his character before he was even introduced/on screen. Toneri and Momoshiki were just thrown in there and were like “oh yeah we’re..we’re sorta here and we want..your eyeballs—and your human girls..and..to defeat naruto and sasuke be—because we just..we just wanna yaaay…”

- Not have killed off Nagato/Pein so easily. Not have him turn into some anti hero for believing in the protagonists bullshit ideologies. Pein had the realest mindset in all of Naruto, when he came in people shit their pants, he took out the entire village in one move, then he surrenders to the protagonist because he spewed his life story for a whole two episodes? It completely nuked the character development of him as a villain and it made it pretty apparent his aspirations were weak minded and entirely flawed. Not killing Pein/Nagato off would’ve did far better for the storyline because they could’ve brought him back. Bringing Pein back would make everyone who watched naruto as a child sit on the edge of their seats. It’s the equivalence of Chrollo vs Hisoka when they fought. We saw the first round and Hisoka not only had his ass whooped, his entire face was charred. We know damn well that Hisoka’s going to go up against Chrollo again, the question is just when. But when that fight happens, everyone’s going to shit themselves because we know how the first round went, so a second is going to have everyone anxious. So imagine naruto vs pein for a second round. Brilliant. Also it would create..better story telling because it would force naruto to have actual answers for Pein as opposed to their first encounter.

Improve the choppy slideshow-like animation

Stop having characters from saying one liners every time Boruto speaks. Here's an example: "Boruto: Wow, the sun is out cant wait to have fun!", then Shikadai says one line, and then Sarada says one line. Its annoying as hell

Make the series more dramatic.

Improve the OST. They use the same songs too much

Give Sarada some shine. She feels like a side character when she should be a main character.

Debase Boruto from being the leader among his friends to being a regular guy. I hate how everyone follows everything he says just because he's popular. Literally episode consists of him standing around around and taking while all of his classmates surround him like he's a celebrity.

The dialogue between the characters is very basic. Sometimes the characters seem unintelligent and immature because of their conversations. The conversations are too lucid for my tastes

Fight conclusions. A lot of the fights end in disappointing ways. For example, Mirai was defeated by Boruto's simple strategy of hiding his clones underneath the bridge. Boruto is wily but Mirai should have been defeated in a more exciting way. Shizuma was defeated in a lame way too. Boruto and his friend just swung their swords at him...yawn.

You kill off his character along with Sarada and Mitsuki.
XD this^

Seriously though OP. Those are actually some really good ideas. For all the **** People give the Boruto manga( myself included) I know it isn’t easy to follow suit of a popular manga. I honestly couldn’t tell you how I would make it better. But what you and your friend put forward is a good start.

Get rid of Boruto and replace him with Metal Lee. And probably add a child for kakashi so his legacy lives on.

Let Sarada and Mitsuki take more active roles and make her the lead.

Replace boruto with Himawari so we can have an older Byakugan user and a real rivalry between dojutsu. + we get to see more of Hanabi Hime:score:

Have legit dialogue and less pairing BS.

Revive somemore Uchiha and let Sasuke have 10+ children

I personally am not a fan of the character Boruto, so if he can be less spoiled that’ll be great. Also I want to know more on Sunagakure, like— please? And I also want Sakura to divorce Sasuke’s a** and go after Gaara. Please? I will be so happy for this. Idc if I get hate, this is what I want

(Also please more back story in different areas that are hardly touched, plus the bijū)

Manga- Weekly release, every female ninja wears tights under their skirts, no kids wearing heels, taller, more mature looking adult characters...everything else, is pretty okay.

Anime- SHUT THE WHOLE THING DOWN, AND TRY AGAIN.

Bring in itachi! He is the boss. He the man. He the champ. Agree with your splendid points. Pain was too cool to be killed that easily, especially tendo, looked freaking cool. He was awesome. Majestic. Favourite characters = Tendo + Hebi Sasuke + Itachi + Eight gate guy + Mei + Muu + fourth kazekage + the sexy tobi.

The former kages were treated like trash, they were easily taken care of; especially Muu who should've ripped the alliance another one.

Kabuto was taken down in a bullsh*t manner. Revive kabuto's powers and make him go with intent to kill at boruto.

Rub the main character from the series homepage, everything will be set alright. Change the trash dialogues of shikadai, it's retractive and re-impelled and boring as he'.
