Video games are an underrated form of brain exercise

I have Injustice 2, and am absolute trash at it. As I am with all fighting games. When I watch pros play Injustice 2 on Youtube, I'm amazed. It takes a highly impressive and capable brain to dish out combos consecutively. They also have insane reaction speed to counter and dodge and whatnot.

Same with Overwatch, which I also have. Overwatch pros look no different than me. Just unremarkable-looking dudes. It's their brains that are more capable and higher functioning than mine that sets us apart. Their reflexes, positioning, target-prioritization, etc.

Many non-gamers think that video games turn our brains to mush. I couldn’t disagree more. To be good at video games, you gotta have some kind of intelligence.

Depends on the game I suppose. I would say the biggest gain would be strategic knowledge in cases like e-sports games such as LoL, Overwatch, R6S, etc.

I agree. My reaction time and strategic thinking are above most people I meet because of this by a large margin.

Unfortunately, this usually is expressed through me thinking of competitive (Like, aggressive) ways of outdoing others.

For example, years ago i was a sandwich maker for wendys. My hands moved at very high speeds (I was easily the fastest out of every store i had been to), and I was very assertive about this, and I felt horrible for how ,such pride I had in this.

As weird an example as that is, it has allowed me to excel in many areas in life, especially jobs, because I am always a step ahead no matter the concept, with a "battle" plan.

Plus its fun to think of work like a battle.

Or maybe it's that you don't care that much, or aren't that desperate to be that good at a video game. Perhaps, maybe you have different priorities than them...

These people do practice, they read the instructions and stuff...while most people just learn naturally. They learn them all, just to prove a point. Perhaps maybe you aren't all that desperate to validate yourself.

It's like with school...I couldn't care less for it, so therefore I'm not focused on it.Realize, that these die hard games spend unhealthy amount of time playing or learning fighting moves. Never been that patient, never cared that much, just wanted to enjoy the game as much as I could. Remember.

They have tons of mental capacity for video game techniques/moves and maybe even school work, but they have less capacity for responsibilities...their focus is solely on self-validation.

I never took a game that seriously, a lot of people just learn all those moves just for credit. You grow up, looking at these people thinking "wow, they must be geniuses"...no, they just have huge a drive for getting credit and validating themselves...that's the motivation behind it.Strongly instilled, and people like that are appropriators and globe trotters. While people like you and me do NOT care all that much, therefore it doesn't matter.

Triumph with minimal effort...cause when you try too hard, it simply means you aren't good enough...

That’s not the worst logic, I guess lol
Smash Bros is awesome though. No one can dispute that

Yeah. I was trying to think of a game that indeed could turn your brain into mush. GTA came to mind, but maybe even that game series requires a decent amount of brain activity. Idk, I haven’t played GTA in like 8 years

Awesome. Competition is great for both people and things. Like Marvel vs DC, for example. They always try to one-up each other, which makes them grow and improve.

Having a competitive nature is something to be proud of imo

True. I most definitely don’t care that much. I’m a casual gamer forsure. I only envy pro gamers who make serious money from competitions, streaming, and whatnot.

Plus, I’m really into fitness, so I could never neglect my body to the extent that pros do.

Actually it does the opposite. Games are killing the little brain cells we have left

I concur.

I have played fps games for more than 20 years. Competitive player for more than 5 years at a certain game. Trust me when I tell you, my reflexes are fast but really really fast when compared to other people around me.

Even when driving, I am quite sure that in some situations really bad stuff was avoided by being quick. The common guy would get into a really bad accident.

Only peanut butter affects me btw.

MCOC is a cash grab! Yeah, it’s high quality and better than the mobile version of Injustice, but it’s shamelessly P2P.

Nintendo fan, I see. Great taste. Those are classics!

Other than the toxicity in competitive mode, Overwatch is perfect! Stop hatin'

the competitive system alone is not GOTY worthy game's so overrated is beyond me...same old things for months and considering OW was a GOTY it gives nothing much...
