When was the first time when the ''Akatsuki'' were foreshadowed in the series?

It doesn't matter if it says directly ''There's an organization called Akatsuki'' or ''There's an organization that's after the tailed beasts for unknown reasons'' as long as it's referring to THEM.

I mean, saying that the first time was in chapter 11 because Obito's face was shown and Obito later one becomes associated with Akatsuki isn't a valid response. What I mean is when was the first time referring to them directly or indirectly.

It might have been before sarutobi's death, even before the chuunins exams during Naruto's training.

While i think about it, yeah it was even before Sarutobi's death.... since Jiraiya alrdy knew about them and Orochimaru joining the group , but i think the first time they appeared after Sarutobi's death.

I also remember Orochimaru saying something like this 'I hate them' or 'You know I did all of this because of them' or something like this.. he was clearly expressing dissatisfaction about that mysterious group, although their name wasn't mentioned like in the panel you provided. Could it be that it happened earlier than this one?

Tailed Beasts as a concept wasn't introduced until Gaara's capture though, so it was probably somewhere else.
