it's itachi who was afraid of Tobidara and not teh contrary...and if itachi wasn't afraid of tobidara then he would've challenged him in a fight..

-so yes itachi was always afraid of Tobidara that's why he never dared attack or turn against him...

It could be said both ways ..... why didnt tobidara beat itachi if he had the power? And he had pain and all the akatsuki in his side . Itachi was lying when he said madara is an invincible immortal. Itachi even lied that madara forcefully took the eye of izuna. So no even tobidara admitted that if itachi had not died , he wouldve never been able to attack konoha. But the reason itachi never attacked him or akatsuki is because of his personality which didnt like violence. Itachi even made swore an oath , if tobidara was powerful he would've said 'who the fuk you man' but he didnt, he was obliged to respect itachi's oath , the reason he sent itachi for checking whether sasuke was fine in part one. I think Itachi would have forced him to use izanagi, which would have forced him to use izanami.

And this is what kept them from fighting. Obito could not afford to be trapped in a genjutsu that forces him to switch sides, and Itachi could not afford to lose one of his mangekyo because he needed to preserve them for his own power, and to save them for sasuke.

Students always surpasses the master..... and yes you can say tobi can pass thru things but also his punches and kicks. obito got caught by amaterasu so i think obito could be caught by kotoamatsukami w8th ezz. Itachi i say is more clever and strategic compared to tobi and kakashi combined.
