This is my personal theory

I think he ate a chakra fruit before kaguya and is a rogue okutsuki and is probably the reason it became forbidden for okutsuki members to eat a whole chakra fruit

I think hagoromo and hamura defeated him after kaguya at some point and sealed him and his power away and I think the nue is one of his tailed beasts.

And he's using Kara to restore himself and to do it he needs the perfect vessel which they're trying to get kawaki but will be himawari.

Yes it's speculation but why I'm so detailed about it is a year's research inside and out the series to have this much confidence that this is how it will generally play out.

I'm 99% sure the new okutsuki will be the big bad

And im like 80% himawari will be his host.

Also there's things we didn't know till the end like kaguya and hamura so obvious truths are not fully known yet.
